Cleaning up aluminum?

Dottie was just fussing about a new automatic dish detergent she's using. It's discoloring all her aluminum stuff, some of it very badly.

Anyone have a suggestion on how to clean the aluminum back to its original appearance?

Maybe 000 steel wool?? It may or may not work, and if it is polished finish, don't do it. satin finish or anything lesser for shine, you can try somewhere inconspicuous. Chage detergents.
