Is it okay to post this here?

I've (rather lately) discovered that sewing is a very relaxing pasttime. Whenever I have been feeling stressed out or just want something fun to do I make a little felt object.

So far this one is my favorite...

But I've also made a bird, candy cane, dog, and Gingerbread man.

I feel like I've got a new addiction... But felt is just so cheap to buy at the craft store and my grandmother supplied me with two huge cases of threads and a big bag of polyfill and I'm just going to town.

Since money is tight this year I was thinking about just making little ornaments or animals for everyone for christmas, but I don't want to seem too cheap...

I know they say it's the thought that counts but most of the people I'd gift to are under 20 and you know... Most kids want a video game or a guitar (like my sister).

Anyways, I just wanted to share the new hobby I picked up.

I heard on the news that, because of the economy, many people have started making their holiday gifts,
instead of buying them.

Your felt kitty is adorable.

Well, I sort of made a pattern out of a silly little cat drawing that I had.

that is so cute!

I've been to quite a few artsy crafty places recently and felt creations seem very popular. *I even got my SS something felted*
I've taken to photographing cute things I see when out shopping so I can remember them later. If you don't mind the thread hijack, here are some super cute bags I saw:

A couple suggestions - It's best not to use a marking pen on white, even if they're suppose to wash out. They never fully do.
And If you're going to make a lot of felt stuff, avoid those cheap .25 cent sheets of poor quality felt. It cost a little more but if you go get a 1/3 or 1/2 yard of the good stuff cut for you'll have more for projects and it looks a lot nicer.
You can also get a lot more colors this way.

I was looking at some projects ideas the other day and came across instructions on how to make felt food - for kids gifts. So if you really like working with felt you should look around online for more project ideas.

I just randomly got the idea one day while walking around Jo-Ann fabrics, I didn't know they cut bigger pieces.
I will have to look once I run out of the cheapie stuff. Thanks :3

I also saw online that people made felt food! One lady made an entire felt sammich but didn't give away her patterns XD but it was really adorable!

^Yeah, there's higher quality stuff that comes on bolts. It tends to be around the same price that fleece is - $7-10 per yard. Not as cheap, but you'll have a 48" or 60" width to work from whatever length you have and a fabric that will look nicer.

Those little animals on the bags in the second photo pushylady posted are from a higher quality felt.

With some of the food stuff, all you need to do is be creative and draw stuff out. You could probably make all sorts of weird felt things.

That is a really cute project. I work in the wool felt. That is the felt on the bolt. I have been making table runners, pillows etc. Just google "wool felt" and you will find a ton of sites that make lovely things. It is easier than working with fabric, no hemming or fraying. I prefer the primative style. If I can figure out how, I will post some of my projects here.

Wool felt work is quite popular now. You will not find much selection in the fabric stores. I have to buy mine on line. The distributor I deal with has it in 78 colors. Jo Ann store has about 7. Glad to see someone else is working in felt. But try the wool felt, it has so many possibilities!

It's adorable! And y'know, one of the projects we're all trying at the Dallas Bead Society is doing beaded embellishment on stuffed critters like that -- most people are getting little promotional toys from fastfood places, but you've inspired me to try making one of my own to work with!
