Dangerous Hot Plate Stove

We have this flat surface hot plate stove in our condo. Right now the kittens are too small to jump to our counter, but what can I do to prevent them from not going to the stove when they are big enough?

The stove is going to be fine most of the time. How can I let the kittens know it is not okay to be there when the plate is still hot after cooking?

I really do not want them to learn only after being hurt.

You will need an alarm or a Sssssscat automatic aerosol spray unit. These IMO are the only things that keep cats off surfaces.

There are all sorts of ideas out there, from two sided tape to tin foil. Frankly, you need to have something that will really startle and scare the cat. You can't worry about scaring the cat compared to the cat getting burned or knocking something over on the stove and starting a fire. I use both. One sits right on my stove when we are not home.

I have yet to see him up there. I don't know if he has been scared by it or he just isn't interested in jumping up. But, you have to start using these deterrants BEFORE they jump up. It has to work the very first time the cat get up where he shouldn't be. Therefore, there is no doubt in their cat mind that the "thing" will be there waiting for them the next time!

PS. Try not to set the alarms off yourself. I've done it. You don't want them to get used to the noise by you setting them off!

I have a flat surface electric stove and have found paw prints on it when I return home. Not very often, but just enough where I worry about it also. If I see them on the counter by the stove, I scare them away by clapping my hands and using my stern "mom" voice (they know my tone). It works when I'm home when the stove would be hot.

But I don't trust them entirely. I keep a tea kettle full of water on the stove and put it on the hot surface when I remove a pan. I also have a cat tree in the kitchen and I redirect the cats to that to give them an alternative. It works for the most part.

That's what I do. There are also rectangular tempered glass stove covers you can put over the surface to protect cats.

I do the same.

Magnum suffered a burned paw as a kitten (he took a flying leap into a heating frying pan) so we are extra careful. After removing them time and time again they have learnt that the kitchen is not for kitties and avoid it and it is rare that I see them on countertops. It has got to the point that I know when Quincy (my newest) has jumped up because one of the others meows to tattle on him

I don't have a flat top stove, but I wonder if those aluminum burner covers would help deter the kitty and keep him from potentially burning. I know they're designed to fit over the heating elements of regular stoves, but it seems like you could just place them over the area that's hot. I have an old iron bacon press that I leave on the stove to cover hot burners when I'm finished with them.

That sounds a good idea. But Cheetah is a "brave" cat. He is not afraid of noise, spray bottle, chasing. We have to physically remove him if we do not want him to be somewhere.
This will probably work for Panther. Thank you!
