(last thread, for those who want to see: http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=207320)

It's not her herpes. It's a puncture wound to the eye. Most likely happened around Halloween. She is in indoor/outdoor cat, and before some of you yell at me for that she's the kind of cat who will break down windows to get outside (yet is always there when I get home from work waiting to be fed)

It makes me so mad that most likely someone did this to her! She's going back monday to have her eye checked again. I'm pretty sure she's going to be blind in it... her beautiful orange eyes... The one with the puncture is still always closed, and it's beginning to white over from the wound, out. I've been keeping her in the basement for treatment of the eye and she's only gone to the door and cried a few times, I had to seal off the cat door with wood so she can't open it.

Wish me luck. I'm hoping that her eye can still be saved.

That is horrible, disgusting and totally puke-inducing. Of all God's creatures, only people have the capacity to be this cruel.

You and Ollie are both in my thoughts and prayers, Breellablue. <<<<hugs>>>>

hi, i am sure ollie will be ok. my older cat josie, they thought she too would lose her eye as she had a ulcer/trauma to the eye which actually burst from the inside( dont know what thats called but vet said it was called something), it took about a month of drops every hour for her eye to come right but it did. dont give up hope, i am positive Ollie will be fine.xxxx

TROANT, I wish I had your optimism... sadly the vet tech inside me tells me she will be blind for life. Her eye has whited over though the trauma site is pink and fleshy, Which is weird to me but we will see what the vets say.

temperpolk, the vets estimate it happened around Nov, 3rd... and like I said short of locking her in the basement (which normally I refuse to do, I keep rescues down here and she doesn't get along with them) she will knock out the screens on the windows to get outside. She's the kind of cat that hides under the couch to zoom out the door soon as you open it.

The vets are back to Herpes, wants to start a new medicine after we let her eye rest a bit. I'm noticing a difference from just the Lysine but the injury still seems too pink and fleshy for Herpes to me. I'm so confused. Vets with different opinions...

Later this week we will be starting Idoxuridine.

Uhg, that's got to be frustrating for you, Breellablue. But, at least, no definitive diagnosis means there is still a possibility for healing.

I remember Ally's right eye (left eye I guess if looking at her) looked bad like that when I found her. I thought there was no way it would heal. It was infected with Herpes too according to the vet and he gave me some gel/cream to put on it. It started with a V I think (I'm pretty sure I posted the name in the past, so if you're curious it's somewhere around) I was also using Gentomicin drops I think it was called. Anyways, I was amazed that it healed and her eye is now perfect with the exception of some chronic tearing and a little irritation it seems every couple days.

I really hope that your Ollie gets better.

I remember the vets locally said that the only way to verify Herpes was via a stain test. Out of curiosity, did the vet do that? I know they're expensive (cost me like $80). I apologize if you already posted the answer.

Also, as for vets with different opinions, would you be willing to try a different vet? I googled the vets in your area and then narrowed them down by those that have what seems to be the best user ratings and are within reasonable driving distance. This one comes up with good ratings and isn't terribly far from what I can see on a map. Out of 7 ratings, only 1 was bad and the others were all 5 stars.

Well, I've given it time... Her eye is open now but the pink growth has gotten bigger and-- badder? We're going to try another medicine from Cornell. I've looked into surgery and it'll cost me about $200 to remove the eye if it comes to that. Here's an updated photo.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
I hope you're able to save his eye!

...but if not, he'll be just fine.
Flowerbelle's energy went up about a 1000% after having her eye removed (it was too damaged from Herpes. We fought for 7 months to save it) - for us, it was a good decision. That was almost 6 years ago... I don't remember how much it cost, but that sounds insanely reasonable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
