Can anyone tell me what the hard little white pieces in all the Venison and green pea Natural Balance is? Bones? Some type of seeds? Almost seem like little broken egg shells.

Are the white pieces in all the cans that you have seen or are they something new?
I was considering trying this food but think I will wait until you find out what they are.
Can you take a picture of the food to share with us?

I hope other members have more feedback for you than I have offered.

Do NOT feed it - it is not normal.
They do have a good customer service, and you can contact them... I would also take it back to Petco or wherever you bought it to show them, maybe that lot needs to be taken from the shelves.
Keep that in the fridge, or frozen, in case you need to send it back to the company.
Write down the lot # and the dates, for when you call the company.

I cleaned them off and used a cardboard backing since they are small. I would say my cat has eaten 5 cans with this white stuff in there. I just found two reviews on amazon complaining about plastic? This better not be that or Im going go ballistic as they are dated as old as January. I have no idea what to even feed him now. Chicken and Liver version he would vomit up immediately sometimes, we thought allergy so I am trying Venison and Green Pea. I thought this stuff was suppose to be the best? Wellness smelled bad and my cat walked away from it which is incredible rare with food. Dont take me much to panic and worry so if anyone really knows what this stuff is much appreciated.

There is no way to know, especially from a picture.
I have fed NB venison and pea on and off for a while, and I can tell you this is NOT supposed to be there. So, again, you need to contact the company. Probably the can you have are all from this defective batch.

As someone who found plastic in NB GP&D I can say that what you posted is NOT plastic. I can post pics of the plastic if you would like?

Aside from not being plastic, you are right in in looks like eggshell OR bone fragments perhaps?

I would email or call NB.... I can give you an email addy to a girl at NB who is really good for CS. If you email, you can include the pic.....

I wouldn't feed it for now, see what NB says.

NB is indeed a good food, but like most pet foods, they've had their problems. There's really no pet food company that has never had a problem.
But I do find NB to be semi sincere in their "caring" about complaints..... they did when I found a 4ish inch strand of plastic in my food anyways.

true, but NB seems to have a lot of problems though... Mold, plastic, and this white stuff... Someone is not doing a very good job in keeping that operation smooth and with good quality control.

I'm thinking bone fragments - deer bones are very very hard and when you saw them, they chip, and high speed band saws sends a shower of fragments all over the place, At any rate, contact the manufacturer and alert them to your concerns and don't feed it until you find out what the bits are.

Snake, that direct email where I can send pictures with would be helpful.
I have the open cans and sealed cans still as well.

I noticed this a few years back with this food. Some batches have more than others, but all of the cans have it. It's more noticeable when you add water, as I used to do for Abby, as the white flecks float a bit. I did contact Natural Balance and unfortunately I don't remember their response. I'm pretty sure they told me they tested the lot, found no issues and sent me more cans.

I now feed the Royal Canin venison and green pea and this does not have the white flecks.

I just tried my first can of Science Hill's Turkey and Giblets, and I also found white flecks in the can.

They are like egg shell as what was described here, but much thinner.

Just an update. My Vet thought they were calcium based or bone fragments, wasn't too worried.. Petco was more leery and pulled the stock and is directly talking to NB, sending out my bag of samples. Funny thing is I found some in duck and pea cans now too. 80 percent less, not hundreds of sharp hard pieces but there is some white solid fragments in there too.

I should have been more clear, sorry bout that. I was asking b/c I just bought two cases of the NB Venison & Green Pea, the 3oz cans, but when I opened the cans the color seemed different. Some of the cans do smell like they should, but some don't. Also there seems to be some of that white stuff you described in some of the cans. And Rascal not wanting to eat it like he normally does, although there are some cans that he is eating.

Could I have gotten a bad batch? The number of the bottom of the cans I got is NBVPC 13:98 best by Aug 26/12.

Gave all mine back to Petco and NB to address this issue. My vet was not concerned and now that there is some, mind you smaller and 80 percent less in volume, in Duck and Pea as well I am thinking its calcium or some type of mineral. The odds that both versions have bone fragments or something that shouldn't be in there would make this company the worst in cat food history.
