Morning All!!

Today's question is:

Do you have something left-over from your childhood that you treasure or holds fond memories for you? It could be a toy, a picture, or just a special memory.

I have a teddy bear that I received for Christmas when I was 4 years old. His name is Andy of course because he is a Panda Bear. That was the big Christmas item when I was that age, much like the Cabbage Patch Kids were in the 70's and the Elmo toys throw the 80's and 90's. He actually sits on my dresser and has for years. He is one of Sassy's favorite pillows as well. I remember how happy I was to get him and though he was the coolest thing in the world.

The only thing I have left from childhood are pictures and a housecoat. Oh, I also had a towel, one of those personalised ones from when I was 5ish.... I had put it away but now I'm not sure where it is.... hopefully its here.

I have the cradle that was made for me
And my kids have slept in it
and I hope their kids will sleep in it too.

I have an iron that I used to iron my doll clothes. It is a very small version of the old fashioned iron that they used to heat up on the stove and then put a cover over, lock in place and then iron clothes with it. We didn't get electricity until I was about 5 or 6 years old so my mom used the big ones and I always had to help with my little iron.

One item I have is a doll size quilt made for me by my paternal grandmother. The only quilt I have left of the many she made. The others got used up.

I have my My Little Pony collection (which I occasionally add to if I find nice vintage ponies) and some of my stuffed toys. I also have a couple baby blankets that are packed up with the ponies.

There's no place like home
I was thinking hard on this one and realized that the only thing I have left from my childhood is my mom's sewing machine that she taught me to sew on. It still works and I still use it from time to time.

It's a Singer Featherweight that she purchased in 1952. I made my first dress on it when I was about 6.

I have a small pink teddy bear that I used to sleep with every night and couldn't fall asleep without him until I was probably 10 or 11. It was a bear but I decided it would be a crocodile (I think because I thought pink was not normal for a bear, even if it's a toy
), his name was Crockie...I generally don't keep anything. This teddy bear along with all of my toys are at the old house we used to live in, it's still my parents' but no one lives there- so I have a lot of stuff there, but where I currently live I have nothing because I hate having useless things sitting around.

My Russian grandad's pocketwatch he gave me. It's my most treasured possession
Pop was a double amputee, and when I was a little girl I would always climb up into his wheelchair with him and watch tv with him and my family. He would always spin me around in his wheel chair and let me play with the dials on his old pocket watch (For some reason I was obsessed with it!). He passed away a long time ago, but that pocket watch always reminds me of him

On the west side of... of... somewhere.
I still have a lot. I still have my old blue 'blankie' that was flannel, but is so thin now... I think my mom made it.
I also have Henry Dog, a stuffed yellow-gold dog with black ears and black belly button (yes, he has a belly button) and a patch on his chest with his name on it. That was purchased, but I don't remember how old I was. I know I had it at 4, because he came with me on our last family backpacking trip.

I also have a Paddington Bear complete with raincoat and hat, that my mother made.

And the tiny gold locket my paternal grandparents bought for me when I was born. Grandpa died when I was two, Grandma when I was six.

Yeah, my family may not say much, but thanks to the packrat gene in my family, i still have several things from when I was little.

I also still have my set of Clifford The Big Red Dog books from my childhood. Those are a treasure.

I have a beach towel I got when I was about 6. It's so ratty and thin now, but I can't imagine throwing it out. So it stays in the cat's carrier these days. They love it as much as I do,

I have a stuffed dog that my Grandmother gave me when I was a baby. I don't know how old I was I just know that I have always had him.

He used to be on the bed all the time. But now he sleeps in a cat bed on the nightstand.

I have a stuffed koala bear from, Oh gosh, I think when I was 4 or so, not really sure. The bear was well loved by me gowing up, and well chewed by my first puppy, Venus. He has a "surgery" scar on his belly from puppy chewing, is missing most of the felt toes on all his paws, though there is enough left to indicate where toes once were, lol. He also has a large glop of candle wax behind one of his ears. Can't blame the dog for that one, that was me, not intentional, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time under a candle in my teenage years.
I just got him out of my bag-o-stuffed animals in the closet, memories, not displayed anymore, and he doesn't look as bad as I remember. (It's been years since I even looked in the bag) He is dirty, looks more that a bit crumpled and smushed, his fur, is just, well, scruffy is a nice way of saying ick. But given he has been in a bag for years, and is 39 years old at the minimum, not too bad!
I think I may clean him up a bit, do some reconstructive surgery on the belly "scar", get the candle wax off, a stuffed animal bath, I am kind of jazzed about this! Odd things can make you really happy!
For those who may say stop! Dont clean the bear up! He may be worth money as is! Well he may be. The tag on him is long gone.(puppy chewed) and for the amount of damage to him, doubt he is worth anything, and I would not sell him anyway.

Thank you for this thread!

George. He's a blue stuffed dog, with long floppy ears. He started life as a pyjama bag, but his pouch was soon too small for my pyjamas. He, however, was no less loved because of this failing, and if you believe the Skin Horse from The Velveteen Rabbit, George is most certainly Real.

"What is REAL?" asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room. "Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?"

"Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."

"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.

"Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt."

"Does it happen all at once, like being wound up," he asked, "or bit by bit?"

"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."
