Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
Soooo I just got back from the emergency vet clinic, I had to take Fatman in as an emergency case because he peed all over the sofa cushions and then had a violent case of diarrea all over the dogs bed and blankets. Now back story quick is that someone we didnt know who had been peeing on the sofa and one of our shelves but having three cats it was hard to isolate who it was and then today Fatman peed right in front of us and as I was cleaning it off went back to the bedroom and pooped all over the dogs bed and bedding. So I trapped him in the bathroom and got him into his carrier. By this time Im hysterical because I know how bad peeing outside the litter box can be healthwise and then the poop well that just had me horrified as to what could possibly be wrong with my big fat babycakes! BF was supportive and helpful this whole time I was freaking out and I ran Fatman down to the vet in tears begging them to help him because I paid bill and literally only have $2.80 in my bank account and .10 cents in my pocket to pay them. They got it oked by the vet for me to make payments and got him in. This vet is a new one and she was so nice..Poor Fatmans eyesball almost shot out of his head when she took his temp but he didnt have a fever and she said he wasnt showing any pain in his bladder area but due to the peeing outside the box she wanted to get a urine sample anyways so I left him there and came back home to get a fecal sample off the blanket to give to them so they could test that also. When I got back to the vet (thank heavens Im only about 3 miles away from them) they were getting the urine and the vet was soooooo nice about it even though Fatman attacked the tech because he doesnt like to be held or carried around (I told them they should have kept the carrier) but needless to say after all the testing his fecal came back negative for everything and his urine came back positive for a massive UTI he was on the verge of developing major infection and crystals possibly if I wouldnt have brought him in right away. That is where the Thank You TCS comes into play because if I wouldnt have read anything on here I wouldnt have known any better and would have summed it up to him being a bad cat but thanks to you guys I learned that peeing outside the box is a big sign of UTIs and took him into the vet and got him tested. Im now officially negative 141.85 but I have 3 mths to pay off the vet and have to take him back in 10-14 days to make sure his antibiotics are working and he is getting all better. She also said that me adding the wet food to his diet probably helped save his life too because it was giving him so much more water that he had no choice but to keep peeing because of all the excess water. Again thank you TCS! I also found out that Fatman is a FAT cat!!! He weighs 18lbs and needs to go on a diet of scheduled measured feedings with 1/3 cup of food per cat twice a day and keep him on 1 can of wet food a day whether he likes it or not and I should lock him in the bathroom so he doesnt steal the other two cats food. So I started the dry measuring tonight and did 3 bowls measured with 1/3 cup in each and every day at 830am and 630-7pm they will be getting fed. So since Fatty Fatman needs to go on a diet they all are going on a diet. Good news added as long as I pay off my balance and show them that they can trust me they may let me get Franklin neutered on a payment plan! So whewwwwwwwwww that was a close call and THANK YOU TCS!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you...I have the biggest headache from crying so hard and being so hysterical..Literally I was yelling at BF that I gotta get him to the hospital because he could die...he didnt believe how serious it was. Geez even when I called off work tonight and explained what happened to my manager he was so sympathetic (he has two cats) and was like stay home and relax I hope Fatman is ok and yes a note from the vet is ok for an excuse to miss work!! Im watching the clock like a hawk because Fatman gets his next dose of meds at 8pm.

Thanks everyone!! This place will forever be my lifesaver! I just know that if it wasnt for being on here I would have chalked up his peeing as bad behavior and not a health problem. But thank heavens for this place because I had the ALERT go off inside my head and the first thought I had was OMG get to a vet it could be crystals and he has 24 hours to live I must save my baby!!!!! And then the tears started flooding! I could only imagine how BF would have felt if we let it go and something happened to him Fatman is his baby and even though he is not a cat person he would have been horrified if Fatman passed away. Im literally praying to the cat gods for this website and all its members because you guys all helped save Fatmans life and made me a responsible parent!!!!!!!!

this is a great lesson also for those who come here saying "don't have the money", or "can't afford to take my sick cat to the vet".
You did with $2.00 on your name, and so can other people too.
IMHO vets are in this field for love of animals, and even though they are also business people, they will not let a pet suffer for lack of $$$. I have never seen a vet not working out a payment plan, or helping out at a time of need.
Thank you for doing this, regardless of how much you had on you...

Give it just a little time, 3CatsN1Dog. UTI's make controlling when and where you pee impossible - poor Fatman couldn't help himself.

I wouldn't wish a UTI on my worst enemy.

I'm so glad you got him to the vet's right away! Totally rockin' awesome that she worked with you like that, too. Yay!!

And your boys are so beautiful!!

Im just worried about him...He has been hiding out in the closet and Im thinking about putting a litter box in there with him but I dont want the dog to get into it and interrupt him when he has to potty it could cause him more stress than just leaving the box in their bedroom where Franklin cant get into there. Ive got to work tonight so I have his food with his meds mixed in all prepared so BF can feed them all tonight I even labeled them so that way he knew which one went to Fatman and with specific instructions to fed them in order, Fatman Gigi then Herc because if he doesnt occupy Fatman first he will steal someone elses food and the same with GiGi...Ive had UTIs before too when I was pregnant and I had them so bad I went into premature labor I too wouldnt wish them on my enemy!

Question for those who have dealt with UTIs in their babies!

**How long did it take for the antibiotics to kick in and start working for him to feel better? Also when did their bathroom habits start returning to normal or did you have to get cat attract litter to basically retrain them to use their litter boxes so they know its a good place to potty?

**Fatman seems to be like me when Im on antibiotics, he is sleepy and hungry all the time..I cant get him out of the closet unless I open a can then he comes running. Also should I stop mixing his meds into his food? Should I use the syringe to give him his meds? It would be a two person job for me so Id have to figure out what to do about giving them 2 times a day because I work nights and cant depend on BF to do everything
