I got the idea Wrinkles was not well liked a the show - Page 2

I told her she needs to show and wrote her a long email about it.
I also told her the cats she might show should be show as soon as possible.
One is Wrinkles brother and will be 7 months by the time she might show.
The other one will be 10 months in Jan.
The show she wants me to come to is a campaigners show.
It is a very big show.
I may not go because I have other shows here I can go to.
I do not plan on getting another kitten from Wrinkles breeder.
She is nice but she does not show and did not now certain meds are not safe for sphynx.
Wrinkles gets altered very soon and she told me vets know what they are doing you do not need to ask questions.
She did not know ketamine can kill sphynx.

Hmm I learned something - didn't know that about Sphynx. Just know their body temps are a few degrees higher then a normal cat.

Sphynx also get HCM so they have to be tested for it.

If I can give my humble opinion as someone who does not show cats, nor do I know much about it, but it seems like you're giving up on Wrinkles awfully quickly, and now you're emailing the breeder, and telling her what she should do about showing (and you knew she didn't show before you purchased Wrinkles, didn't you?). Is Wrinkles show quality? I haven't the slightest idea, but it seems as if you should try to find out before looking into getting another kitten whom you think might show better, or placing blame on her breeder when you really don't know for sure that Wrinkles won't show well later on.

And this last bit is honestly meant as kindly advice (but I don't think it will come across as such), but if showing/breeding is what you want to do, maybe before purchasing another kitten, find out what qualities to look for in a good show kitten so you don't have to rely entirely on the word of the cat's breeder?

I am not giving up on Wrinkles and will be showing her next weekend.
I bought Wrinkles as show quality.
Wrinkles breeder asked me to give her advice on showing.
She wants me to come to the San Diego show and show Wrinkles there.
I do know what to look for in a show cat.

I might be out of line in saying this as I really don't know much about showing myself so forgive me if I come out as rude I really don't mean to, but why would you purchase a show cat from someone who doesn't show, obviously if they don't then they really don't know what to look for in a show cat. Also how could someone who breeds this breed of cat not know a few specific, and very important, things about the cat (IE what could/could not be harmful/kill the cat) as well as saying not to ask questions that the vet knows what it's doing? Again, I don't mean to come off rude or nasty but you might want to look into other breeders. Good luck, though, whatever the case may be and I hope Wrinkles does better in future shows :

Ketamine killed my 5 year old abyssinian. Tommy was my 1st abyssinian cat. I hate that drug. When I got my 2 abyssinians I have now, their breeder told me that aby's were sensitive to ketamine and to use ISO. I personally think that ketamine is bad bad drug for any of my cats....

Back to the subject, I think your sphynx are beautiful cats.

I am sorry you have not gotten a lot of positive feedback about Wrinkles at a show. I have not seen any photos of her recently, and don't know anything about her other than what you write here. But logically it doesn't surprise me that she would not do well at shows as she does not come from a breeder who shows and/or breeding stock that are grands or Ch.'s in her pedigree. But that is no reason why she can't be a perfect pet
I think Cleo is a very nice cat structurally and conformationally and is what I would expect from a breeding program that breeds to the standard. Sphynx are my favorite breed, and lovely cats, you can't go wrong adding them to your home

Jacky showed me more recent pics of her and she is a decent example - she may or may not grand (hope she does) but compared to the top winning pics of Sphynx she is good quality - certainly not pet quality.

Yay Can't wait to see new Wrinkles Sphynx kitten pictures!

Jacky, I wouldn't worry if Wrinkles doesn't get Championed right off the bat. It is also something to remember when they're young that with age, they will change.

I am no expert, but the two shows I've shown the cats at have really educated me on what they are looking for and what they think is a great sphynx. I have also networked with another sphynx breeder from last show who is most certainly very experienced and knowledgeable about this breed. Since I am relatively new to this breed, I am learning so much as I go and with others' who are willing to provide encouragment and support.

Give wrinkles a few more months before you deem her as just pet quality. I would love to see pics also of her.

I don't know anything about showing, but maybe the judges didn't like her because of her pedigree (non show cats)? They might think you got her from a BYB since her breeder doesn't show. I know you didn't get her from a BYB, but the judges don't know that.

Also, you said something about a judge that liked her tail because it curls... Her tail doesn't have a kink does it? Her tail may be a issue. I've read that some judges just don't like certain colors, maybe they don't like her unique color?

Also, keep in mind that she has alot of growing to do, she will change alot over the next few months. Maybe for the better.

BTW, I think she is ADORABLE! Her & Cleo both.

Unless things are different over there, the judge only has sex, colour and age. No name or information about the cat.

True Amanda - only thing on the judge's book is status (ch/grand), sex, breed, color and birthdate.

And even from the catalog (they get their copies after the show is over) - you cannot tell if a cat is from a cattery that shows or not - it lists the parent's name and breeder/owner.

In CFA some of the breeders will tip the judges off that the cat is from thier breeding program.
It happened at Cleos first show and the lady that was teaching me how to show told me what the breeders were doing.
Yeah I've seen/heard it before. Some in ACFA will even mention - "is this who I think it is....?"
