Rough play

Ok so i know i have been asking alot of questions and i apologize in advance. But how do i know if my 7 month old kitten is playing too rough with my 8 week old kitten? This rough play happens all day long. My 7 month old never leaves him alone. He is always chasing and biting and playing so rough that the kitten ends up screaming. I break it up because i fear that the little one will get hurt but it doesnt last...within seconds it is back to rough play. Also the 7 month old will sit in another room and make a calling sound as if he is calling the little one to him. This happens at night also when the little one is sleeping. Is the big one trying to wake up the little one? I have always had cats but they were always the same age and i didnt worry so much about the rough play as they both were the same size. These two there is a big size difference..the 7 month old is 10 pounds and the little one is only 2.2 pounds.

Any answers or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Julie

Hi Julie - totally normal, and if the little one is not traumatized, and keeps going back for more, it's because it is not too bad and he like to play with his little brother!
By him screaming he is setting boundaries - too rough! I don't like it!
Just observe them closely, and let them sort it out - only intervene if there is fur flying, blood, spitting, and loud continuous screaming. Otherwise it is actually good for them, and the little one will teach how hard he can play.

I am a total worrier & I have to say when I brought new kittens home I always kept them separate from the larger ones until I knew they could defend themselves. So I totally understand your concern. For the most part I agree that kitties will work things out, but I find that sometimes I still have to break things up between my adult cats.

As far as the calling, my guess is the older one doesn't need as much sleep. and he is trying to get him to come play.
