I have two 7 months old kittens. They are both ginger and lovely affection litttle cats,i love them to bits.

They weigh about 5 pounds each..they look VERY healthy but im not sure whether or not they are in an appropriate feeding routine or are not getting enough?
I feed them 2 times a day, they dont eat very expensive food but i was thinking maybe of changing because i want them to be as healthy as they can be!
They eat between them a tin of cat food a day, 1/4 of a tin each in the morning and 1/4 of a tin each at night and they are ALWAYS hungry and always asking for more, i was thinking maybe they have worms so i got them wormed again but they are just the same!! they go mad at feeding times and the eat it so fast its gone within minutes and they will eat anything they can get there paws on..am i feeding them enough as they are not skinny and one is very heavy! and everyone says he is over fed? can anyone give me some advice on this and what cat food is best bearing in mind i live in portugal and my local shop only sells the local pet food or the more expensive friskies or whiskas(more expensive because imported).
Thanks
Robyn

They are acting hungry because they are VERY hungry!
You are feeding the 1/2 can of food a day, when they should probably be getting 2 cans.
Kittens eat DOUBLE of what an adult cat eats - so if the can says to feed 1 can a day per 8 lbs per adult cat, kittens should be getting 2 cans day... So, as a rule of thumb, FEED THEM ALL THEY WILL EAT. That is how kittens are fed.
Plus, they should not be fed only 2x/day as kittens - 3x day at least - they can not take all the food they need in 2 sittings, their stomachs are not ready for that.
At 7 months, they should be weighing around 7 lbs, so they are not heavy, they are about 2lbs UNDERweight, unless they have a very small frame.
Feeding them all wet is great, but if you can not afford all the food they need a day, go ahead and add some dry food into their diets. Put some in a bowl and leave it throughout the day; just keep refilling the bowl - let them eat all they want from the dry food, and THEN you can complement their diets with what you are feeding now - 1/4 can in the morning and at night In addition to all they can eat dry food.
They should be eating all they want until they are 1 yr old.
I hope this happens...

Yup I would suggest putting some dry food down to supplement the wet food. Kittens are still growing they are supposed to eat a lot of food.

Hi and welcome, my cats eat just normal tinned cat food and dry complete food. Kittens though I was under the impression have to eats 3-4 times a day. There is nothing wrong with the food that you are feding, my 5 cats are all healthy, just they need some more, treat them like babies and babies eat every four hours on average

I have a 6 month old kitten. The way I feed him is that I have two separate bowls for him. One I free-feed dry food in [about 1/3-1/2 cup in 24 hours], and the other I give him wet food in 3 times a day. This seems to work out for both of our schedules, plus he can eat however much he wants and still get the good stuff from the wet food.

When he's beyond a year I'll probably remove the dry or something.
