So Josh and I were just sitting on the couch and Danny is in his usual spot. He loves to sleep in this clothes basket that we have by the TV that's got a bunch of random things in it (winter coats, old sheets, just random things that need to be washed...eventually). He sits up and closes his eyes a little. I thought "Surely he's not peeing...." I go and lift him up and low and behold, a big puddle of pee! Of course Josh freaks out going "DANNY! Why did you do that?" I go into vet tech mode and investigate the pee. I got it up with a papertowel and it looked a little concentrated and smells infected. Josh thinks I'm crazy about the smell.

Then Josh informs me that somebody peed on my robe that was on the floor in the bedroom. My robe is another favorite spot of Danny's. And I remember that I saw him pee in the litterbox in the bedroom yesterday, which he NEVER uses.

So, I'm thinking there is something going on. Why in the world would he pee in his favorite sleeping spot? The litterboxes are clean and even when I'm a bad meowmy and don't scoop for a day or two, Danny is still a great litterbox user. And I don't care if Josh thinks I'm crazy, his pee smelled infected!! And even if he would go outside the box surely he would at least try to hide it and not go in front of us.

Of course I'm off from work tomorrow, but I'll bring him up there in between classes. Hopefully we won't be busy and I can help with him and go ahead and take him home so he won't have to stay up there all day. I hope it's just a minor infection and not stones or anything. He's a youngster (just turned one) so I doubt it. Heck, I could just be overreacting and he's fine...just getting ornery,
. Fingers crossed!!

It does sound like something is wrong. that it is just a minor infection OR you are overreacting
But if its over reaction, then you'll need to go through the usual questions about what is causing it.

Let us know tomorrow... I'll keep hoping

Charlie got a UTI between 1-2 yrs old. We had to put him on Royal Canin for Urinary and start feeding him canned food. We now have all 3 cats on the same foods and are feeding raw.

He has not had a UTI since. I hope Danny is ok and not too sick.

I've got him on Royal Canin Young Adult and 1/3 can Authority wet once a day. I have been thinking about switching their dry to TOTW though. Hopefully it's just a minor issue and won't require a food switch. Danny isn't picky, but my other two are, of course. We shall see.....

And thank you both for the well wishes,
.

checked out. I have been fighting a UTI in my cat Beeba for the last two days. He started out peeing where ever and sat there forever doing it. His urine was tinged with blood.

Don't try to treat this. This can be life threatening. It could be crystals or a UTI. Either way, a blocked cat is a very sick cat and needs vet attentiion quickly.

Beeba is on Baytril and a urine acidifyer. He is only 2 years old. A youngster also. I ended up giving him syringes of water to keep him hydrated. He was feeling so sick, he would not eat or drink. He will also need to eat, if he is not eating now. Puree some food and finger feed him (carefully)!

Check out my threads from the last couple of days. The vet will want a urine sample. I used aquarium gravel in the litter box to enable us to get a clear sample that was not clumping. Use dust free gravel.

This am he is his old self. He will have to be on meds for 2 weeks though. I hope your guy is ok. But if he is peeing outside the box, he needs attention quickly.

Keep us posted.

You are not over reacting. I'm sure you know how dangerous urinary tract problems are in males.

I always tell people, when a cat does this sort of thing, it is for two reasons. It may hurt him to pee so he blames the box, and pees elsewhere (especially on something soft), and a cat can't say hey mom it hurts when I pee, so he is telling you in the only way he knows how to get your attention. By peeing in front of you.

Keep us updated on Danny!

Well, today has been absolutely crazy and I'm not going to have time to run Danny to work. I'll take him with me in the morning.

However, he is doing fine this morning. Currently trying to catch an evil fly in the window. His appetite is normal, activity level is at it's same crazy point, and no fever last night or this morning. (He is the only cat I know who still purrs while having his temp taken,
).

I thought of something last night that may be a reason for this behavior. I'm trying new litter. It's still Tidy Cats as per usual, but a different formula. So maybe it's just he doesn't like the new litter. Either way I'm going to take him in to get some urine from him tomorrow, since the urine did look and smell a little concentrated to me. No other outside the box accidents since last night.

I'll let you know how things go tomorrow!!

Well, I was right! Danny is definitely having pee issues.

After waiting all day for him to get some urine in his bladder we got a sample. He is full of red blood cells! It was hard to see if there was anything else because it was filled with so many. So we gave him a shot of convenia and hopefully that will clear it up.

Of course this happens when our normal vet is at a AAFP conference. But we did have a relief vet who thought it wasn't anything serious such as stones or anything. But, doc gets back on Monday so I'll talk with her and see if she thinks anything else is necessary, such as x-rays or a diet change.

He's barely one year! I'm just creating horrible scenarios in my head (INTERRUPTION: Danny just got in the litterbox and we have..... a small-medium amount of pee. At least he's peeing and not screaming. And now he's drinking water...good). I just hope this isn't going to be a lifelong struggle. He already has mystery sinus issues. He doesn't need anything else this young.

So, a fairly good prognosis. Fingers crossed that this will clear it right up and leave us with no recurring issues!

Are they sending the sample out to check for crystals? Poor Danny! My vet always gives a couple days of pain meds for a kitty with a UTI, to make kitty more comfortable while waiting for the antibiotic to work.

Keep us updated.

No check for crystals, no culture. I really don't think it's necessary at this point. I'll recheck his urine next week and if we aren't totally clear I'll definitely culture and possibly send off.

I do have some pain meds for him (actually left over from when Luke had them), but he seems just like my normal crazy Danny. Still eating/drinking and running around like a kitten. I think I caught this very very early. Heck, he's not even mad at me like I thought he would be. As soon as I got him in the door and picked him up he was back to his purr bucket self.
