Hello my name is Xavier. I recently got a new cat, he is a little kitty still. He is going to the bathroom on the floor as off right now and wont go use his litter. Does anyone have a good and fast method that I can teach my cat to go use his litter. Also I want to start teaching him some common cat tricks. I went to this site and she had some good basic tips I thought made sense and were easy to follow anyone else have somewhere I can get more tips from

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

Hi xavier - how old is your kitten?
Did he ever use the litterbox, or he never did? If he did, when did he stop using it?
What litter are you using? Where is the litterbox?

I am kind of new to cats to be honest I've been doing some research just to get some tips on how to take care of my cat. I just want to be a good owner to my cat. The litter is in the corner of the room where people cant easily trip or kick on it. I dont think he has used it yet. But I know he is still going on the floor because I often have to clean up after him. He is around 1 month and 1 week old.

OMG Xavier, he is way way too young to be away from his mommy.... He should be with her for another 7 weeks... At 5 weeks he is missing out on some serious learning from her, using the litterbox is one of them. Not biting, social behavior, etc too...
The best thing you will do at this point, is to put him in a room with his litterbox, water and food. Use this litter: Kitten Attract Litter You can get it at a PetSmart, or other pet store close to you. Here is a rebate form, so that the first bag is free.
You are going to need to teach him how to use the litterbox. Put him on the litter box whenever you see him peeing. If he pees in a cloth, or something you can move, put that into the litter box, so he can smell. You can also collect his poop and put inside of it.
Also make sure that the litterbox has low sides, and that he can easily get inside of it.
Make sure to clean all the pee spots with a good enzyme cleaner.
Once he starts using the litterbox, then you can let him out of that room. Until then he should be in it.

Carolina's right - you need to be his "mommy." In addition to everything she suggested, the only thing I'd add is when you see him peeing and you place him in the box, hold his little paw gently and "show" him how to cover up his pee.
And just like with human children, remember - he is doing nothing wrong when he pees outside the box. He doesn't know any better. He will learn by your showing him and with Carolina's suggestion to get his pee scent on a cloth and put that in the box. He should learn pretty quickly. But NEVER scold him. Cats learn MUCh faster with positive reinforcement - so whenever he uses the box, even if it's you putting him in there, praise him to high heaven for being SUCH a GOOD kitty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This will help as well.

Also remember - his bladder isn't very big yet, and he may just have accidents from time-to-time. Kitties tend to play and not pay attention and he may find he needs to go before he can get to a box. The usual recommendation is that you have at least one more box than you have cats. This is excellent advice, particularly when it comes to kittens. But he definitely needs a lower sided box as he's soooo teeney right now. You'll have to buy him new boxes (just like growing toddlers need new shoes
) as he grows.
...and this is a great site to learn all about cats, so ask away!
