The TICA Jamestown, NC show just got cancelled less than a week before show day. Not enough entries. People are staying home, saving their money.
I sure hope I get my $350 in entry fees back.

If not, I'll be very leery of entering other smaller shows.

Lianna told me last night it only had 80 cats entered.
I bet she will be disappointed that there will be no show.
Our show yesterday almost had 200 cats.

Is it viable in the States to break the show season up like in NZ?

For example we have shows Feb-Nov so at least it comes people a chance off to save for entries and have babies in the Summer. We had 6 shows cancelled last year but that was about 6 months before - it just wouldn't happen here in NZ (cancelling a week before) but then again our entries close about 5 weeks before the show.

200 is a great number!!

That's a pity, Nial. that you get your entry fee returned. It would be unwise of them not to, for precisely the reason you cite. Entry fees and deposits and such are intended at least in part to demonstrate good faith on the part of the person entering, but if the event is cancelled that's hardly their fault, so they should not be penalized. That should be especially so when times are tough.

I am sure he will get the fees back.
Sam we had 72 kittens alone.

Is that both LH & SH? or just SH? That's about normal numbers for the start of the season here. Since we're obviousely a smaller country and from weekend to weekend we go from the top of the country to the bottom but we would probably have at least 80-90 LH kittens alone at our largest show.

We do it that way too break over summer and even then numbers drop end of year as some are over it and can't be bothered especially if they are not up for end of year awards , I would hate to see what it would be like if we had shows all year.

Hop you get a refund Nial

I believe there were 137 cats at the CFA Longview show last weekend. They were hoping to reach 225.

Have to admit it was nice and relaxed unlike some shows, but there were 70 kittens! I don't know if that's more than usual, but man those rings took forever.

That was both LH and SH.
It does take forever when there are so many kittens.
My Mentor was at the Longview show with a blue sphynx.
The Hayward show only had 142 cats which was real low for them.

That's rough. That's what I'm expecting sooner or later. So far the shows are pulling in 120-140 for entries up here.

I don't think any of the associations would consider making the season short. Kittens are born year round, so no one really takes off to raise a litter of kittens.

Yes, it is disappointing. However, it may be a mixed blessing.Mom decided in the past few days that she didn't want to stay at my sister's, and I've been worry about making sure I have enough money on hand (it is about 2 hours for me and would have taken close to a full tank for both days - for a sedan it is sort of a guzzler). Also, I wanted to offer something for the cost of the cat's entry since Nial is doing me a huge favor. Now we'll be visiting Nial's cattery instead which is closer to my place and will only take us one round trip.

Did I mention what a great breeder Nial is?

You'll get your money back for sure if you like Nial from what I just read from the TICA yahoo list:

Dear Exhibitors,

As Vanadis said this is not an easy decision or is it a cost free decision.

I am still on the road driving home from Lafayette, LA and will address all
refunds once I get home.

If any of you that have entered and paid wish to have a paid voucher for a
show next year please let me know.
If you paid by Pal Pay I can refund those monies right back into your
accounts.
If you paid by check and it has not been deposited I will be mailing your
check back and
if you paid by check that was deposited already I will mail a club check to
you.
If anyone would like donate any monies to the club to help cover the non
refundable bills this club would REALLY appreciate it.

I will be sending an itemized email out to show everyone what bills have
been paid and what money is non refundable so all exhibitors will have a
better understanding of what it takes to put on a show before the show date.

Again I am on the road driving home and will address all of you once I get
home. Thank you for understanding!
