Hi, Jesse is not good, she is still eating and purring but she is deteriating(cant spell right now).on thursday she could still fit through our trellidoors to go outside and now she cant, she waits there for me to open the gates for her to go outside ,thats in two days. on thursday , she was lying on the trampoline, big tummy and all, and i was so happy that she could jump up there still(that gave me hope)( she lies there because it is warm )but today i walked outside and she was hanging from the side of the trampoline because she could not get up. she loves to come and lie on my chest in the mornings, after her breakfast or when i put my daughter to sleep in the afternoons but this morning she tried to jump and missed, and tried again and then just lay down on the floor and i picked her up and just loved her, quietly and gently. i dont really want to face next week and i think that this disease , , and i know its FIP(in my soul, i know it is),it is so awful and cruel but one tiny part of me hopes that the scan on tuesday shows something different but i know that(deep down) i must let go of this little thing i love so much and let her be in peace because i do love her and as much as i look up things on the internet and then phone the vet to try this and that, this disease is working fast and nothing is going to help her, poor little thing.xxx

Hang in there.... Maybe it isn't... I just don't understand how your vet hasn't drained this fluid yet, if for nothing else, to make her comfortable.

IMHO you NEED to talk to your vet again about draining her belly, giving her diuretic, or something - this is a torture on your little girl. IMHO unacceptable. I mean, does he want her to pop? Where does he think this fluid is going to go?
I am sorry, but I don't get it - this vet is way too passive IMHO.

I'm totally with Carolinalima - something needs to be done to make this cat more comfortable.

Troant, can you take her to a different vet? Or even an emergency vet?

I'm so very sorry you and your kitty are going through this. It's clear you love her dearly. I've had to put a cat to sleep and I know the pain is excruciating. I will keep both of you in my thoughts and prayers. <<<<<hugs>>>>> I wish there was more I could do.

I would second a second opinion but We all should realize the OP is in Africa which does not have the same vet care available as the US

I am very sorry to hear what is happening. It surely does sound like the FIP cases I have heard of before, though I am not a vet.. There is only one end to this disease, I am very sorry. None of use can tell you how to handle this, but I would not let let this go until Monday. I hope you decided to get her seen today.

What ever you do, know that all of us are thinking of you and little Jesse.

Hi , good morning everyone. sorry i have not updated yet , been very yuch 2 days. Jes had her scan yesterday. They found her intestine to be irregular in thickness in places and the surface is all crinkly, like a pool pipe for a pool cleaner but it should look like a hose pipe. The final verdict is that she does not have FIP but intestinal leakage which is causing her stomach to blow up so dramatically. she said it could be a form of cancer, leukemia. they are now treating her with a drug that they would use to treat cancer and an anti-inflammatory. She will be on these tablets for two weeks. The vet is trying to stop the stomach from getting bigger and trying to fix whats going on inside so that she does not continue to loose fluid. Hope this makes sense. She is only eating little bits throughout the day so i bought her Hills AD and ID food, apparently its very high in calories so at least she will get nutrients in.

prognosis not very good but hey, she is looking better than she did on saturday so all i can do is hope. thank you for all your support, i will keep you updated.xx

This is very good news... I wish we could just bring you both to the US...

Hills AD is very good, and it is great that she doesn't have FIP... Since your vet doesn't know what she has, I will keep my hopes up, and pray for an inflammation of some sort that will get better with this drug It sounds to me anything is possible at this point, including that! Let's not lose hope, right? She looks better after all, sooooo..... Attagirl!

I have not read the whole story, but has chylousperitoneum been brough up. My cat Spot had been growing huge in her belly, and she was a petite cat. She had CP. Chylousperitoneum is when lymphatic fluid drains from a tear in the lymph system. It drains into the abdomen. They drew off a lot of white liquid.

Sadly, it was incurable and I lost her last February. Very rare in cats. In fact that is what brought me to this forum, trying to research this nasty thing.

Whatever the outcome, I am sending good thoughts to you and your cat. It is such a hard thing to go through....

thank you for the update on Jesse! I am glad, so glad, FIP has been ruled out. Can this condition be treated with surgery, once she builds her strength up?
