Many premiums are NOW doing this... meal is a dry food I understand .. In a dry it keeps meat and thus the protein % after cooking... Canned is mainly mositure thus the cooking aspect is totally different ... Fresh meats in a can do not lose the moisture like a dry food would...

Anyone have any thought s ? I think it is a CHEAP way to Boost protein % s

The only thing I can think is cost - cheaper for them (the manufacturers) to buy it from rendering facilities, who produce it in large quantities, than to buy fresh meat. Because it includes whole carcasses, the prices drops as well... So, especially in this economy, I would say cutting cost is the main reason.
