This gorgeous guy I mentioned in the "Turkish Van" thread.

He wasn't eating dry food, and no one noticed. He was brought in by someone whose neighbor moved out and left the cat behind.

I noticed he wasn't eating, and got him wet food. After that, he was fed wet, but probably not as much as he would have liked. He was putting on some weight, but was still extremely skinny.

I told the shelter assistant director to call me before they made any drastic decisions about him. She said they were thinking he might be diabetic. They noticed, as had I, that his litter box was almost entirely soaked.

Dottie stopped by the shelter yesterday afternoon and happened to notice he wasn't in his accustomed cage. She asked about him, and he had been euthanized. Apparently the message to call us didn't get put on his card.

RIP, Buddy. I didn't know that far-off stare of yours was looking at the near end of the Rainbow Bridge.

Poor Buddy! It makes me angry that they couldn't be bothered to make a note on his card to call you.
I'm sorry people failed you.

Poor boy
Hopefully he'll be well across the bridge by now, but a agree with Tricia, that's annoying that they never told you

I'm so sorry. How difficult would it be to make that note, and honour your wishes so that you and Buddy to be together at that sad moment? Annoying.

RIP Buddy boy

In fairness, the shelter is almost 40% understaffed right now due to illness, etc. They do the best they can; the person who makes the euthanasia decision just didn't know.

Dottie was heartbroken.

Buddy would have made some lonely person a great "buddy." He had a reputation for not liking other cats, but he clearly liked people and he had the most expressive chirps, trills, purrs, etc.

Sometimes I hate this world.

At least someone tried to help him.

RIP Buddy. These shelter stories make me so sad and mad. I don't know how you stand it. You guys that work or volunteer at shelters are very special in my eyes.

Dottie doesn't currently volunteer at the shelter, although she may help me with some photos for Petfinder (they're really behind). And yes, she was almost physically sick (and definitely very depressed) when she hear the news.
