Would you take it all? - Page 2

By any chance do you have a UPS store or vendor anywhere near you? A lot of online vendors will deliver to UPS/Kinkos or other mailbox company and then you can pick up from them. Ask your UPS guy. I did that with a couple of large items that I didn't want delivered to my office, nor did I want them to sit outside.

hmmm...that's a good idea, thanks. But would I have to rent a box? The UPS store isn't exactly NEAR me, but I am in that general area a couple times a week.

I'd give them a call or ask next time you're in the area - I don't have a box at my UPS store either, and didn't even know the service existed until I went in to actually send something. They said a lot of people ordering computers, or bulky items, use them, even in urban/suburban areas. As I remember, it was a minimal charge to use them, and they were very prompt on calling me when the package arrived. Last time I used it was maybe 6 months ago, so don't know if anything changed. I think the only problem is if it's something that the actual purchaser has to sign for, like Fedex, but that's not that many sort of deliveries.

I just kind of like the image of Fedex delivering to UPS, for some reason.

Haha, both FedEx and UPS deliver parcels to USPS for final delivery. I dunno, it always amuses me when the UPS guy comes into the Post Office in his brown uniform with a bunch of packages for us .

That's really interesting. They won't do that here.

Are you sure? They don't exactly advertise it. And the packages look like any other packages, postage and all (some do have a UPS barcode as well as a USPS scan, but it's hard to tell if you aren't familiar with the setup). If you pay the company to deliver it by UPS, they have to do that. But if you don't specify to the company, and it's advantageous for them to do so, they will have UPS deliver part of the way and drop it off with USPS for final delivery. More common in rural areas (UPS hates going out in the rurals, but of course USPS goes out there every day), but as far as I know, it does happen everywhere.

It's mostly the cheap ground transport parcels, not Priority stuff. Gevalia is a major drop-ship user.

They don't do let USPS handle that here, either. But then I have my mail delivered by a woman on foot - she can't even manage to pick up any letters we put out, so I wouldn't expect her to take care of any packages.

Here FedEx and UPS do their own deliveries and they like to do the "drop and run" method for everything. I'll hear them on the front porch and by the time I get the door open, they've already drove off. I've had problems in the past with live insect deliveries do to their carelessness, and am slightly concerned about ordering cat food (which I will be doing soon).

Yes I am sure. UPS will not deliver to the post office. I have found this out on several occasions when ordering something and the company did not tell me they don't ship USPS, even after I put in my PO box address.

Usually my stuff would end up languishing in the back of some UPS holding center for ages while I try to track down my order. Once or twice the UPS driver was courteous enough to stop at the PO and tell the clerk there that I had a package and leave a number for me to call to arrange to have it delivered to my house, but not often.

I don't like using UPS. I have a post office post office box for a reason. I don't want packages sitting on my door step for hours at a time.

Depending on what Im shopping for I will take the last thing..Like when Ive got enough coffee for one day and I NEED more..Im taking the last container I dont care if its some little old lady in a walker wanting my coffee..If Im there first Im taking it because I would be liable to hurt someone without my coffee for the day. But with getting my cat supplies there are normally a lot of boxes left on the shelf when I go shopping so I never have had to take the last one. But IF I was almost out of litter and needed some and there was only one box I would take it because I cant live without litter the same with food I would have to take the last bag. But if I was just getting extra I wouldnt take the last box or bag...

And how in the world do you find an associate at Walmart because whenever I need one I can almost never find one without looking for about 30 minutes to find someone who doesnt even know anything about the department Im looking for something in!!!!!

Hi! Thanks for your reply! I didn't mean would you take the last thing, if it was the only thing there. If I needed it, I would take the last one, if there was only one, too.

I meant if there was sufficient supply, would you clear the shelf?

Then no if there was 5 boxes of cat litter left or bags of food..No I wouldnt take it. Id buy one and come back later that week or the following week and get another one. Special Kitty there is always only 2 or 4 boxes left when I get there so I only ever get one or two at a time because you never know whos coming behind you and is out of litter and NEEDS to get some. I hardly ever wait till the last minute to restock my food or litter. Id probably buy the last boxes though if I had more cats and needed more litter than I do...But I still stand by my coffee statement..that little old lady in her walker isnt getting my coffee..lmao..its mine!

UPS has done this with my packages. I've always thought it was the dumbest thing I've ever seen because I live less than 1/2 mile from the post office.

I buy 4 cases of wet food each trip to the store, 1 or 2 bags of dry and 6 jugs of litter. I used to special order the dry, but now they stock it. I would definitely empty a shelf, but only by taking my regular amount. It's about a 90 minute drive round trip and probably +99% of their customers live much closer.

It depends.

If I were going for 12 items, and they had 24, I wouldn't take 24 just because it's there. I would just get my 12. However, if I wanted 12 and that's all they had, then yes, I would take all of it.

As someone already stated it's not my job to police how much is on a store's shelves and make sure that there is enough to go around to everyone who wants the item.

If the item is popular and always selling out, then the store should be ordering in more of the item.

Now, on the other hand if I went for 12 of something and that's all they had, and I saw someone else in line wanting to buy some of the same item, I would share what was left with the person so that we both got some and didn't waste a trip.

I order ahead, its always waiting for me even if I wait a week after the delivery comes in, but all of the stores around here are well stocked and I rarely encounter an empty shelf

Oh, no, that's not what I meant. If it's sent UPS, they WILL NOT deliver it to the PO for delivery, or to a PO box. But, there are some parcels that UPS has made an arrangement for USPS to deliver, somewhere they're dropped off at a UPS shipping place, they transport them, they drop them off at the PO and we deliver them. It's kind of weird and hard to explain.

Anyway, Purina ONE was on sale at Petsmart the other day, and, yes, I took the last bag . I was going to ask if there were more in the back but I was short on time so I just got the 2 bags that were out. Sorry!
