Needy but smart cat HELP!

Hello all,

I have two very wonderful cats. One of them, Monkey, is incredibly social and curious. The problem is that this curiousity increased dramatically two months ago when we moved from a high rise to a larger, two bedroom flat.

The biggest problem is that he insists on having every door open, including the bedroom door. When it's closed, he paws and scratches, wanting to come in and make sure we're ok. In some cases, I guess it would be fine to leave it open, but true to his name, Monkey uses humans like personal jungle gyms. My boyfriend is a light sleeper and the disruption is causing him serious health problems. It's either the scratching or the bouncing. The cat never sits still.

Both of my cats get along famously and never fight. Often, they sleep together (though usually when the humans are up). They eat well, never fight, and are in good health otherwise.

We have thought about crating him when we sleep, but he makes a ruckus then too and our place is still not big enough to keep trying this. We have considered Feliaway, but it's not clear if this behavior is entirely stress so I am not sure if it would help. He's always been curious and obnoxious, but I've generally just put up with it, but the boyfriend is a very light sleeper. We've tried tape on the door, but it just makes him more interested. Airfreshners/scents do nothing either.

Help! Any advice?

Have you tried playing with him and getting him good and tired before you go to bed?
