Well stopping at two was extremely difficult. There were so many wonderful cats. There was a calico kitty who desperatly tried to choose me. Snickers was a wow type tabby. Just really beautiful and extremely friendly.
We chose Pretty Girl. She is a stunning soft gray tabby. She went into the shelter as a tiny feral kitten back in 2006. She is shy and so has never been chosen for a home. She is too shy to choose someone herself.
We also picked up Aretha (now named Sabrina). She is a solid black short hair. She came into the shelter as very young cat back in 2005. She is extremely sweet and loving and the only reason the shelter people can think of as to why she has never been adopted is because she is black. She immediatly chose me. She made it quite clear that I am her's and there would be no arguments.
The shelter was very nice. They have very few standard cages and those are only for cats who don't get along with cats. Otherwise they have two rooms full of basically large dog runs with tops on them. Inside are a couple of litter boxes, a couple of feeding stations, a cat tree and numerous sleeping platforms with blankets. There were around six cats or so to a run. Very nice places for them they had.
Then they had the Sanctuary room. The shelter used to be a church and the room where all the pews and stuff would normally be was a huge cattery. It was all open. Around the edge were cat trees and sleeping platforms. In the center of the room were two rows of litter boxes sitting back to back. There was also a big feeding station. Apperantly the cats get to rotate through the Sanctuary room, so the each got some time in there. Pretty Girl was in one of the runs but they brought her to the Sanctuary room for us to meet. It was in this room that I chosen by Sabrina. There were several kitties in there when we went in there. Isabella was one of them. I was sorely tempted to take her and Trixie (the calico) home as well. But I took just enough money for gas lunch and the adoption fee for two cats. I knew if I took more I wouldn't be able to resist.
When my husband and I bought our house six years ago, we moved my parents in. My husband, kids and I occupy the main floor while my parents have the basement. There is a bathroom, bedroom, living room, laundry room/kitchenette and the kids' school room (I home school) down there. At the top of the stairs is a landing with two doors. One door leads into my kitchen the other outside. So they have their own exit. They have three dogs. One is a peke, the other two are the mother and sister of my dog. When I got Sasha, they got a 3 month old short haired tuxedo kitten and named her Sassy. Its a fitting name.
Pretty Gitl is hiding under the bed in my parents room right now. We figured since she is so shy it would be best for her to go down there away from the kids where things are quieter for the most part. She has a litter box and food and water in there. Sassy is too busy being a wild child to care about whether or not there is another cat.
Sabrina is is hiding under my bed right now, but after seeing how she was at the shelter I have no doubt she will be out and about in no time. In the meantime there is a litter box and such in there until she feels comfortable coming out. Sasha who is on the brink of leaving kittenhood behind isn't so sure about Sabrina. When she first saw her she spit at her quite fiercly but Sabrina ignored her. So Sasha decided that maybe she wasn't so bad after all and left the room and snoozed for while in the living room.
