Hi, I lost my cat Mindy on March 19th 2004, she was a gorgeous black and white domestic shorthair and she was only 3. We moved into a new house and lived on a main road, I for some reason thought I had to buy all the cats collars when we moved incase they wandered. We kept all our cats in but Mindy got out, she disappeared for 3 days and then returned and I tried everything to keep her in but she used to hide in the kitchen and when the door was open escape.
I was at work one day when I had a phone call on my mobile from a number that I didn't recognise, I was told off for having my phone on so I just switched it off, I worked lates and when I got home I noticed straight away that Mindy wasn't in her usual place on the sofa but I was so tired that I went to bed (I feel so guilty for this). It wasn't until the next morning that I switched my phone on and I had an answerphone message from a neighbour who lived 3 doors away saying he had some information about my cat, I rang him instantly and he said that he had come home from work and that Mindy was on his driveway deceased, he said it looked as though she had crawled onto his drive to get to his house, the most awful thing is that he his cat had been killed in the same way a couple of months before and he couldn't bring himself to pick her up, he had to ring his friend to help. Bless him, he had put her in a box and wrapped her up.
I am so sorry for going into so much detail but even now 4 years later it hurts like anything and I have no-one to talk to about it, my hubby isn't a great cat lover and I feel so guilty for not answering my phone that night even though there as nothing I could have done. I sent my hubby to get her and the one thing I requested was he look at her and tell me she looked ok, he said she looked like she was asleep and no noticeabe injuries which actually comforted me.
What angers me is that if you hit a dog over here the police have to be informed but not a cat, if this was the case Mindy might still be here. I have 5 cats now and 1 of them goes out all the time but thanks to advice from people off here I am taking steps to make her an indoor cat as I couldn't go through this again, my heart will never feel complete.
