This is the last country I visited before meeting DW in June, 2001. Since then, the two of us have been to 18 countries together, most of which you have seen by now. That means in the future I will have to break down and actually scan in film photos.

Here it is, what country am I in?

One guess per username. First correct guess gets 10,000 points.

I would have guessed Italy or Austria but since someone already guessed those I'm going with Germany

Yes, this is Hungary. One of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Budapest. However, Budapest is actually two cities, Buda and Pest. BTW, Pest is pronounced Pesh so the correct pronounciation of the joined cities is Budapesh.

CONGRATULATIONS!!

There has always been a minimum number of characters to keep spamming to a minimum. That is why you would see some people answer this by saying: Hungary fill fill.

And now to add to today's geography lesson, 5000 points to the first person that can tell me what river I am on. I am going to trust you on this; no using google, bing, yahoo, etc.

I finally got one right.
My first thought was Budapest, but I realized at the last second that you had asked for the country, not the city. Now that would have been frustrating to miss it because I didn't read the question carefully.

You must remember then a couple of months ago I featured Romania which was on this same trip. You are right, the Danube it is. Now if I can only get the points to you correctly. I should be able to look at my history file and do that.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Next week if my scanner works you are going to see a most amazing picture of me in a most amazing country. Stand by!

Yes, I remember the picture of Romania, it had people in traditional clothes in a small village.. I actually guessed wrong and said it was Bulgaria
The traditional clothes in that area- both Bulgaria and Romania vary so much by region that it's pretty near impossible to know what they all look like although the white and red and some kind of colorful head gear are all common ..

ETA: got the points
I like how you said "blue danube" from the waltz!! It brings back memories of going to elementary school in Bulgaria, I think there was a ship called Radetzky we learned about ..
