Do your cats suck the awake out of you?

DH and I have a long standing joke that when a cat snuggles on top of you, that they "suck the awake out of you". You know what I mean - they snuggle on top, start to purr and knead you, and you instantly get sleepy. Muddy had me snoring in about 2 minutes last night when he fell asleep in my lap.

Do any of your cats do this?

Topaz will curl up by my outstretched arm and start purring. I'm usually asleep not long after.

They can. I was fine watching tv last night on the couch until Sho curled up on my chest. I woke up 30 minutes later when he moved.

I have the opposite problem. The only time Riley gets on me is in the morning when he's waking me up. He's thoughtful enough to wait for the alarm clock, but once it goes off he's ruthless!

Jordan does this all the time. He will curl up on my pillow right next to my head. He is so warm and soft that I can't help but fall right back to sleep. For me the really bad thing is that it has become a habit. He does this almost every night, so when he is not in the mood to cuddle I have a hard time sleeping.

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
When Hercules decides to sleep on my side of the bed he is usually right in front of my face against my pillow and I can pass right out with his fur in my nose! I love the smell of my kitties when its bed time its better than tylenol pm!!

With me it's more like a comfort blanket. I am so used to Joji beside me to go to sleep that now I need her purring to send me snoring.

Oh gosh yes. I sit down, Swanie jumps up, stretches out, starts purring, and pretty soon we are both

I agree, there is just something about a warm, snuggly, purring kitty that is so relaxing and sleep inducing.

Aya usually does the opposite. Sometime between 5 and 7am she decides its time I got up and fed and entertained the kitty. she actively tries to dig me out from under the covers and tackles my feet.

Then in the middle of the day (if I am not working) she commandeers my lap. I am expected to hold perfectly still while she naps for 30 minutes or an hour.

With all of the cats I have it literally is like a blanket.
They do help keep me warm in winter.

On the mornings I've decided to stay in bed longer, Carly will come in and lay on top of me just as I think it is time to get up. Needless to say, I end up spending another 1/2 hour in bed with both of us dozing.

Funny, that was the first thing I thought of, too.

Although, they do help when it's time for a afternoon nap, or the night time "nap". I get their help waking and sleeping - guess I'm very fortunate.

In the afternoon if I'm not getting into my bed for a nap when he thinks it's time, I have one cat asking what the hold up is.

Having a purring furball on my chest is more soporific than taking benadryl (and benadryl works so fast on me, I almost have to be lying down when I take it).

They definitely do suck the awake out of you, but I find only my biggest cat, Bolan, can do that. If I'm lying down on the sofa watching tv, he'll jump up on to the sofa then lower himself down and sleep on my chest - I say chest, but he's so big he covers my entire torso! he sleeps with his paws either side of my neck and his back legs splayed out either side of my waist - as soon as he's asleep I'm asleep! I'm told I'm often found asleep with my head to one side and Bolan's head resting on my cheek.
