I have been feeding my cat a little less then 1/2 a cup of dry EVO a day for a while now. I brought her too the vet the other day and she has gained 2lbs! So I guess my little chunker needs too go on a diet.
I have tried all kinds of wet and she will not eat them. I know from reading on here that wet will make her loose weight and stay a healthy weight but of course she is picky. What do you recommend I try? The grain free has been working great for her, except for the weight issue.
Thanks in advance!

I finger fed Neko wet food so that she would become more interested in the taste and not the smell or look of it. It worked! She looks forward to her wet food now.
Giver a few finger feedings and then see if your kitty will eat from the dish.
Good luck, hope this helps.

I have tried that, thanks
but of course she puts her nose up and walks away. I dont think wet is going to be an option for her.
My vet suggested a weight management food but I hate too put her back on grains because I swear that is what made her throw up alot of the times.

evo has roughly 30% more calories than ave cat food ...you may want to look at another grain free like taste which has fewer calories

. I wish my cat would just eat wet food!

Wellness offers grain-free formulas as well as their Core line. nature';s variety also sells Instinct which are grain-free. Merrick has their BG (Before Grain) line as well although their canned is supposed to be used as a supplement to their diet (which I don't agree with). GO! also has a couple of grain free wet foods.

So she could have dog food? If it gives her the nutrition she needs and it's lower in calories I dont mind giving it a shot.

Can someone please help us figure out the calories of this food?

Thanks Sharky!

Besides finding a food that has fewer calories that she will eat, have you thought of exercise? Play with her with wand toys and stuff like that, so she will jump and run, which could help her burn some calories.. I'm not sure if this is a good suggestion, but I figured it was worth a shot..

Thank you for the suggestion
. I do play with her everyday by having her chase the laser pointer or have her play with her fuzzy balls by throwing them (she loves playing fetch). And she of course love da bird. She is a brat and very spoiled. If I dont play with her she lets me know, lol.

This is what I was going to say too. An active kitty is much less likely to be overweight.

I have a lot of tips on how to get a kitty moving, if you would like me to post them, I will be happy to.

It can take time to get a sedentary cat moving, but it can be done!

Some tips that might help her transition to wet:

Put some wet on a plate right next to her dry while she's eating for several days. Just enough so she can smell it while she's eating and associate the two together.

Then drop just a couple of kibbles on top of the wet and offer that to her before the kibble for several days.

Also, in conjunction with the kibble, you could sprinkle freeze-dried meat treats on the wet food. Stella and Chewy's makes some, as does Whole Life. Cats often find these treats irresistible.

It will likely take some time, but hopefully, the two together will encourage her to first try and then enjoy the wet food so that eventually, you can reduce and then remove the dry altogether.

Good luck!

Kibble with wet IS a NO NO ... ask anyone with some bacterial knowledge ...

Freeze dried meat is and has been a huge hit for me though I would be VERY CAUTIOUS putting it on wet food..

If you want to try wet .. go to the store and buy a can or two of at least 3 different brand s and a flavors .. this way you can find the taste and texture yours will like...

MOST cats eat some wet and dry and are Purrfectly fine...

Thanks so much! I am so happy they came out with a weight management EVO for cats. Now lets just hope they start selling it in the store. Also I will try again to incorporate some wet food in her diet. Wish me luck!

Yeah, Sharky, that's why I said "a couple". One or two kibbles, eaten right away off the top of wet food, is not a health hazard to the cat (and if it is, then kibble is dangerous and shouldn't be fed at all (oh, wait, that's what I've been saying all along!
)).

In encouraging a kitty to transition from kibble to wet (an very important health improvement), this trick can be invaluable.

If my initial post wasn't clear, let me further elucidate:

Put some wet on a plate right next to her dry while she's eating for several days. Just enough so she can smell it while she's eating and associate the two together.

Then drop just a couple of kibbles on top of the wet and offer that to her before the kibble for several days to see if she will try it. If she refuses, throw away the two kibble pieces and put down the dry food next to the plate of wet.

Also, in conjunction with the kibble, you could sprinkle freeze-dried meat treats on the wet food. Stella and Chewy's makes some, as does Whole Life. Cats often find these treats irresistible.

Good luck, Regina! Your kitty is lucky you are willing to try to out-stubborn her.

shockingly MOST cats do not need that at all... if you find the Right texture and flavor of course this can be tough
.. ie in many decades I have NEVER done that to get a cat to eat wet or raw ...

There are currently 8 companys readily avail in most markets of freeze dried .. I love freeze dried LOW to NO bacterial risk , easy to feed and versitle... ie at my house two like it the way it comes out of bag , one likes it rehydrated and two eat it however it is served
