The big cats have always prefered to drink out of the same water pail as my dogs but the new kitten can't reach unless the water is full up to the top. We have laminate flooring so the only two places we can keep the water is in the bathroom or our very small kitchen so we took the pail out of the bathroom and put down a shorter glass dish in the kitchen for everybody. The dogs were happy, they haven't liked drinking from that pail since I bought it new (it's supposed to be stainless steel but they must think it tastes or smells funny).
Everything was fine for a while but then Eyvan went into the bathroom sat down on the back of the toilet and started yowling. We looked into every need the cat could have possibly had and I even carried him out and showed him the glass dish of water, but he returned to the bathroom and resumed his yowling from the back of the toilet. Finally, as a last resort, my son filled the pail and put it back in the corner. Eyvan got down, inspected it and left a happy cat - he never even took a drink! He just wanted his pail back where it belonged.
