Wanting a Siamese kitten

Okay well I was cruising Petfinder and came across a Siamese kitten up for adoption from a local rescue. He is very cute. I filled out the application, but the problem is I just realized that our pet policy puts a limit on how many pets we can have, 1 dog and 1 cat and we have that. So I'll probably be denied.

Now that I know I want this type of cat. (I believe he's a traditional Siamese) I would like to know how to go about finding a breeder. This is of course once we move and get into our own place so I can have all the animals I want. In other words I got some time. What are things to look for in a breeder? I don't want to show. I just want a healthy cat.

Thanks in advance.

We have "Siamese" cats of many different colors at our shelter on a regular basis. As an example, right now we have a lynx point (think Carolinalima's "Lucky") and a flame point kitten.

They're not uncommon.

Of course, if you want the extreme examples of the breed, we rarely see those at the shelter. There are several breeders that frequent the forum here.

There is a good chance the kitten on Petfinder is not even a a Purebred.
Most places will label mix cats a breed so people will adopt them.
I had mixed breed siamese that looked like purebreds before but they were not.
You have to ask breeders alot of questions.
Siamese can be very loud also.
My Coco is half siamese and she can be loud just like the other siameses that I have had.
Here is a link to a list of breeders.

Most shelters name pointed domestics as Siamese.

Traditional Siamese are known as Thai cats http://www.breedlist.com/breeders/thai.html#Archenland

This is his picture. Is he just a pointed domestic? I figured he is probably a mix being that he is at the rescue. But I just think he is so cute.

Nothing wrong with "just" a pointed domestic, I just disagree with labeling them as purebred when most likey they are not.

He is very cute

I was thinking of Siamese before I came across Ocicats (thanks to GoldenKitty ), I drive a friend to shows who has Siamese and Orientals, and from their voice I know I made right decision Ocicats are opinionated but do not have the long loud meow of the Siamese.

I guess what I was trying to say is that when I googled traditional Siamese there is a breeder in my area that has kittens that look like the picture I posted. However, if they are not Siamese and they are pointed domestic I didn't want to spend money like I would for a "pure" Siamese. Although I love the way they look either way.

I wasn't sure if there are what we call in the Great Dane world "back yard breeders". Someone who will breed just for the money and doesn't care about the health and welfare of the breed. I learned the hard way that there is more to buying a good pure bred animal. Our Dane is not OFA certified as I knew nothing about that when we purchased ours. We just knew he came from a Champion Sire and that our pup would be big like my hubby wanted. However, I have since learned that bigger isn't always better.

But I'd be happy with a Siamese mix all the same. My Pixie was a Lynx Point and I loved her. She would always come when I called no matter what. She is the only cat that I have ever had to come when I called her.

Not all Siamese are loud either. Mika certainly isn't and Bijou is just now talking more as he gets older. He only talks if we talk to him usually or if we close a door and he can't get in to be with us. I left to go out on Saturday and John said he complained a bit when I left and he will "ask" John to go outside but never "asks" me because he is smart and knows I won't let him out.
