OK, I'll admit they make very few new movies I'm willing to sit through.

But I do like some old movies. Not classics, but just plain good old movies.

Last night, we watched "The Trouble with Angels." Hayley Mills, of course.

Another one we really enjoyed a while back was "Roman Holiday."

Got a favorite?

There are some great old movies. I much prefer to watch a good old movie than something mediocre that just came out...
A few weeks ago there was an old movie on TV called "The Main Event" (1979) - it had Barbara Streisand in it and I loved it even though it wasn't all that special when I think about it....it was just fun in a way that I didn't expect a movie that old to be! It made me think of how little people and society change over time in regards to what keeps us entertained.

Not sure if what I consider to be "old" is really actually old..

I LOVE Grease, that is my all time favortie older movie. Some of my other faves: Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Last American Virgin, The Lost Boys, The Goonies, and I'm sure there is more I just can't think of ATM..

Ah, yes, almost any old musical.

Look up "Royal Wedding."

My favorite in that genre is "The Music Man."

For just plain eye candy fun, "Support Your Local Sheriff."

I love 'Bringing Up Baby' with Cary Grant and Kate Hepburn. I think it's absolutely hilarious.
Also 'Arsenic and Old Lace' with Cary Grant
'We're No Angels' with Humphrey Bogart and a young Peter Ustinov
'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' with Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell
'Meet Me in St. Louis' with Judy Garland and Margaret O'Brien (a must-watch over the Christmas holidays)
'Sunset Boulevard' with Gloria Swanson; she is amazing in that film!
'Stalag 17' with William Holden.

I've heard "Dirty Dancing" mentioned a lot lately.

Another fun one is "The Harvey Girls."

I love "Now Voyager" with Bette Davis, actually any old movie with Davis suits me just fine. She has always been my favorite actress of that genre. Also love "White Heat" with James Cagney. There are so many I could watch over and over, Casablanca, Angels with Dirty Faces and on and on. Oh yeah The Autumn Leaves with Joan Crawford, great movie.

I love just about anything with William Holden or Robert Mitchum

I love old movies, I have a big collection and Turner Classic Movies is practically always recording something on my DVR.
How to Steal a Million with Audrey Hepburn and Peter O'toole
Shall We Dance & Top Hat with Fred and Ginger
Night Nurse with Barbara Stanwyck and a young Clark Gable...actually I love Barbara Stanwyck so most of her stuff
I could go on all day, really

I LOVE The Shining.
I could never get tired of that movie.

I also think of Nightmare Before Christmas as a classic and I can watch that movie a hundred times in a row.

I have to chime in on this one, cuz most people think I'm weird cuz I absolutely adore Judy Garland and every single one of her movies. I'm 22 yrs old, that's why everyone thinks I'm so weird. My fav. is The Easter Parade, followed by Meet Me In St Louis, but I've seen and love almost all of her films.

Watching Judy's movies exposed me to Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire, love them! I'm looking for some good movies with either of them in it. Any recommendations?

Isn't White Heat great? I love most anything with James Cagney. I am also a fan of Now Voyager.

I often watch older movies when I find them on TV. A couple of my favorites are Desk Set with Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy and Mrs Miniver with Greer Garson. I also really enjoyed the original Auntie Mame with Rosaline Russel and Seven Brides, for Seven Brothers..

On the west side of... of... somewhere.
For me, Sound of Music, Brigadoon, anything with Fred and Ginger.

One movie I'd never heard of until I watched it during a sick day. Three Coins In The Fountain. I could not stop watching it. It was funny... I wanted to buy a copy, but it wasn't out on DVD yet. Everyone kept telling me to just buy the VHS. My response was that as soon as I get the VHS, it would be released on DVD. I waited. It finally came out on DVD and I have a copy.

To the person who mentioned Dirty Dancing... sorry.... anything that was made during my lifetime, especially after 1980, is not old.

For old movie fans, have you ever seen "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" with Steve Martin, (which I guess qualifies an an old movie itself, release date 1982) it is a parody of the old movies, very nior and hilarious!

I kind of think of anything after 1970 as "new."
