What is wrong with this story?

Lou Dobbs Says His Views Made His Home a Target

Anyone that knows firearms can tell you, that for a rifle bullet to be so low on energy that it bounces off house siding and falls to the ground, it had to have been fired from an insanely long distance away. In excess of 2 miles, actually. Much, much, much too far for it to have been intentional.

Or, it was fired almost straight up, and was just angling back down in freefall.

Either way, a rifle fired at a house inside it's effective range would have penetrated at least one wall, more likely 2.

Things that make ya' go; hmmm!

I heard it is being blamed on hunters but the only thing in season at the time of the shot was bow hunting. Must have been poachers.

If it was fired from something like a .22LR, then it may have only been about 250-300 yards away, and could have very well been on purpose. But then, they wouldn't have known for sure it was a "rifle bullet", because the .22LR rifle and pistol use the same ammunition.

Spend some time in West Virginia...it sounds like 4th of July out here as everyone is practicing their shots. There is no law against target shooting. I just hate hunting season. Don't get me wrong...I love deer meat (yes, shoot me), but I hate everyone, including me, being freaked out by the shots.

Deer rifle season scares me bad. Those deer rifles have a fatal range of something like 2 miles, and some of the hunters are careless. Which means a carelessly aimed shot from 2 miles away could kill me, and the hunter wouldn't even know he had done it.....ack! Scary. Pheasant hunters are frequently terribly reckless and generally irresponsible, but at least bird shot doesn't travel too far.
