1,990 pages, oh joy.

She gives a nice present to the Trial Lawyers of America, double joy.

Quote:
Section 2531, entitled “Medical Liability Alternatives,†establishes an incentive program for states to adopt and implement alternatives to medical liability litigation. [But]…… a state is not eligible for the incentive payments if that state puts a law on the books that limits attorneys’ fees or imposes caps on damages.
Gotta keep those Trial Lawyers happy, you know. The more litigation by the Personal Injury Lawyers the better.

My state is screwed. Nevada HAD to impose Tort Reform, it became an emergency. Doctors were leaving this state in droves about 7 years ago. Women, literally, could not find an OB-GYN to deliver their babies. The Legislature passed Tort Reform in an Emergency Session I believe. It was that bad.

From what you are saying, it sounds like the states get to choose between doctors and lawyers.

Cap damages, make the doctors happy and the lawyers unhappy.

Or don't cap damages and keep the lawyers happy and let the doctors be unhappy.

I know which one I'd choose!

Not to sound completely dumb but Im confused..Actually Im confused by a lot of the health care stuff that keeps going around or is talked about on the news. People toss in so much medical terms and legal speak that it makes it difficult to understand sometimes when people (like me) are trying to figure out what is actually going on. I know that right now Id wish there was something better for people who cant get health insurance thru work and then arent eligable for county assistance because they "make too much money" The insurance offered at my work is only available to people who get 37 hours or more (it has to be schedules hours not what you happen to pick up) and then to top if off you have to be there for atleast 3 yrs at that hourly rate. So for me I cant get any insurance not to mention that the few people who do have insurance at work say its HORRIBLE insurance and they end up paying out more than they end up recieving. So its a lose lose situation for us.
I would love it if there was something out there to help those of us without insurance to get medical assistance or something along those lines. Especially in my case I have a hereditary blood disorder where I will end up on coumadin for the rest of my life at some point. But I cant even afford to get my blood tested to make sure all my levels and clotting factors are where they are supposed to be. I just cross my fingers everyday that taking my baby asprin daily is enough to help me out and keep things on a preventative level!

I'm in the same situation you are. I don't know whats going to happen. I can't afford the cholesterol medicine, my Dr is giving me samples until I can get it down from a dangerous level. If I have a heart attack I will have to ask for euthanazia because the stress from the hospital bills will put me right over the edge. The company I work for is so rotten they will fire you if you get the swine flu or get sick with anything. This is not a joke. They walk a fine line in their ethics.

I'm still trying to figure out who the "everybody" is when the media says that "everybody is concerned about healthcare". I've worked with 3 different teams at work, and the breakroom discussion is more centered on retirement, commuting traffic and the price of gas. Healthcare isn't mentioned unless it's on the TV in the breakroom, and the mention it gets is "tired of hearing about this".

This entire health care reform just makes my blood boil.

Both political parties suck. We have needed health care reform for a long time but the Republicans did NOTHING and the Democrats want to bankrupt the country.

Direct link to the NEW Health Care Bill, all 1,990 pages of it. Oh joy, Charlie Rangel is the first person listed. Charlie Rangel who really should be in jail for corruption. Lovely

And Barack, constantly promises that, "if you like your current health insurance you will be able to keep it. What he doesn't say is, you better never change jobs.

I think people are foolish NOT to be concerned about somethig that will take 16% of this country's GDP

Well, why? If we keep them from spending it, will they give us our money back?

That is true already! Also you better not lose your job either, or have your hours cut! It has nothing to do with the current bill. IMO the BIGGEST problem with our current system and the one that the health insurance companies are lobbying hard to save is that it is EMPLOYER-based because of how it was designed back in the years following WW2. If you're an employee where the health benefits are good, you have it made. If not, you're out in the cold. If it were up to me that whole system would be dropped.

I would have to agree with this, to some extent. One of the big problems with current employer-based plans is that it's not the patient, but the employer who is the actual customer of the insurance companies, and they will tailor the plans to suit the employers, not the patients.

After 2013 we will be out of luck, it will end up going to a Single Payer System, JUST like Barack has always wanted.

Also, I have no idea where they think they are going to obtain the money for this. Other than making us pay for it, starting now, so in 2013 they have start up money. That start up money won't last long.

Also, what are seniors supposed to do with the billions in Medicare cuts? No one seems to care about that.

I am stressing on how I am going to pay our medical insurance next year. Since DH is not working, I use one of my company's insurance plans. the company pays 75% I pay 25% of the premium. We were told that the insurance rates were going up next year.... way up. But I didn't expect it to go up THIS much! My portion went up 239%!!!!!!! From $48.50 to $116.00 every two weeks!!! I am barely making it as it is. They haven't even given me my raise this year. Usually a measely 3.5% Not enough to cover the insurance rate increase. DH is going to take early retirement from his job he lost 10 yrs ago. Thank goodness we have that to fall back on, but it is going to be 66% of what it could have been if he started it at retirement age.

My old family doctor costs an arm and leg just to walk in the door let alone have someone remove my IUD!!! I wish I could just yank the thing out myself!
