We found this kitten the other day, and my mom took it into our house and adopted it. It was pretty cold outside (40F) when we found it. The cat was fine the first night we had it, and then the next morning it started throwing up, wasn't eating, and was really lethargic. That afternoon it died. My mother is now concerned that the cat had some sickness that it could have passed on to us. Does anyone know why the cat may have died? Is there anything that we need to be concerned about with our health?

I doubt it. I'm sure the little one was sick when you picked it up. Unless the kitten had rabies and bit you, you don't have to worry.

There are very few interspieces diseases. The main one to worry about is Rabies, but as GoldenKitty said, unless the kitty bit you it's not a concern.

Do you have other cats or pets? That would really be all you would have to worry about. Chances are, though, that the kitten probably had fleas. So you'll want to vacuum thoroughly - maybe even cut up a flea collar and toss it in the bag.

No worries, we don't have any other animals. Buried the body right away. I guess everything is good then. Thanks for the help.

At least the poor kitten knew love for the short period he was with you.

It could have been something as simple as a respiratory infection, which can be fatal to a weakened cat, or even something like feline distemper. In the main, you are as likely to catch something from a stalk of asparagus as you are from a cat. There are very few diseases that affect cats and also affect humans.
