My cat of nearly 20 years recently died, and I really miss having a kitty in my house. In his later years, my old cat had some urination accidents on my carpet. I've cleaned these up as best I can but I'm wondering if a new kitten will pick up the scent and think it's OK to urinate in these spots. Will a professional rug cleaning help? Is there anything else I can do? Your advice is appreciated. I can't afford a new carpet.

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

I am so sorry for your recent loss.
Cats do smell traces of urine that we cannot. The best way to clean it is with an enzyme cleaner. A black light is especially helpful in finding all the places that have urine that you may not have noticed in other places. Black lights can be found in the cleaning section of pet stores.
As for enzyme cleaners, there are some that work much better than others and you may have to order online. It is well worth the effort.

I have used these with success. They do work. It is important to follow the instructions on the label. Sometimes it helps to repeat the process a few times, especially if there is a build up of old urine in the rug.
I wish you the best.

I have tried other enzymatic cleaners but not the ones you've mentioned. I think the biggest problem is that the urine soaked well into the carpet pad before I discovered it. I will try one of the products you recommended.
