Sharky, these are the ingredients listed on the Petco site for the Eukunuba Chicken flavor:

Chicken, Chicken By-Product Meal, Corn Meal, Corn Grits, Animal Fat (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Dried Beet Pulp, Dried Egg Product, Natural Flavor, Sodium Bisulfate, Fish Oil (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Potassium Chloride, DL-Methionine, Brewers Dried Yeast, Choline Chloride, Calcium Carbonate, Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin, Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin A Acetate, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Thiamine Mononitrate (source of vitamin B1), Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (source of vitamin B6), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement (source of vitamin B2), Inositol, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid), Minerals (Zinc Oxide, Manganese Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Potassium Iodide, Cobalt Carbonate), Salt, Rosemary Extract.

Are the grains the corn meal and corn grits?

I thought chicken by-products were ok, at least as opposed to meat by-products.

Don't pretty much all cat food, dry or wet, have preservatives? Or is there a preservative type in particular that should be avoided?

I'm looking for something that doesn't have wheat gluten in it, as I think that is what is causing my cat, Rascal, to have diarrhea.

Currently feeding them both Royal Canin Maine Coon31 dry and Natural Balance Venison wet. Rascal doesn't like the NB as much ... sigh ... so I'm trying to find something else. They both like the RC MC31 but it has wheat gluten.

It's a shame because one cat does really well on the MC and the NB, but the other doesn't, although he does well on the NB, but doesn't like it as much.

Thanks again for your input Sharky, it's appreciated

Okay they used to have citric acid which can be chemically derived... Yes all food s have some kind of preserving agent .. the issues is natural ie salt and vitamin e or chemically done like bht, bha

I am not a big fan of gluten's but at least it is an accessory protein and reasonably digestible .. ie wheat gluten is roughly 75-80% and whole wheat is closer to 60

Folks doing raw and homemade diets use up to 30% by products but they also for the most part know what and who
.... with wet food I am less worried about the % of things like bone as MOST are not meal based.. But as you see this is meal based which IMHO = NO sense as meals are used in dry foods to keep the % of meat after cooking
