DH says I can't pick out movies anymore. The last one I got at RedBox (DVD vending machine) was "Blindness", and it was definitely strange....but riveting. The premise is there is a strange epidemic where people suddenly develope a blindness where they see white instead of black. The government freaks because more people get infected and they start quarentining them. Then, it kind of becomes the "Lord of the Flies" type thing and watching how a society that, at that point, is equal (as in can't see) and who comes out on top and who gets a powertrip.

It was probably one of the strangest movies we have watched (we have watched it twice and still go "WTH???") but we couldn't STOP watching it...both times. I just love the psychological dramas that give insite into characters minds. It's not a thriller, it's more suspense and just strange, but if you have time and see it for rent, and like that kind of thing, it's worth it...if you like to analyze things. I guess I just like strange things.

Congrats, your Majesty

I once sat through a terrible, terrible movie called "Blood Dolls", just because Persia White was in it, dressed in "biker chick" black.

It doesn't get much stranger than Psychopathia Sexualis, which ends up being more of a documentary + silent film, and it is all very strange.

I'll have to rent this "Blindness" movie just to check it out. Or perhaps I'll see if it's on Watch-Movies.
I need something more interesting to do tonight.

I actually read the novel blindness is based on, but I've never seen the movie. The novel was by Jose Saramago- and it was weird too. There is a sequel to it called "Seeing" and I never read that one because I didn't like blindness all that much...I liked the message and I liked the author's take on having everything restored back to the "state of nature" -but I thought the book itself was a little boring to read- wordy and dragged on forever.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!

I saw that movie, and the one thing I distinctly remember was Julianne Moore's face at the end, when she began realizing that people were going to begin regaining their sight. By her expression, I thought she seemed sad that this "classless" society that had bonded all of these people together, was now going to be lost, and there would be no reason for them to lean on one another and be friends. Did you take it that way as well?

I have a couple different takes on the end (and if I watch it again, I'll probably have a third take!), but I can see that. I thought it was more of a "she wasn't needed" anymore. Because her purpose in life for that time was to take care of people and if they all get their sight back, she will have no purpose except to take care of her husband. She will lose her new family and her role as caregiver.

Strange movie. I may have to watch it again tonight.

I never saw Psychopathia Sexualis, but I did see "Blood Sucking Freaks"
Dr. Lecter looks like a guy you could hang with as normal after that.
"Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer" was disturbing, very disturbing.
More main steam, "Fargo"

I would like to see Blindness. I just rented "Pontypool" on a whim. It was a strange movie about a mysterious plague that hits Pontypool, Ontario, causing mass violence and dementia-like symptoms. The plague is spread through spoken English, and the movie mostly takes place in a radio station, where people call in to report what is going on. There is very little "action" seen. I loved it though. It seemed pretty original!
