My cats' food has 1.6% calcium and 1.3% phosphorus. Is this a good ratio for calcium and phosphorus?
In a DRY food with meals ... ie chicken meal has a greater % of bone than chicken thus they have HIGHER % of minerals than most wet foods ... Plus they are DRY and do not have the benefits of the moisture to aid in this ... Of course I am finding some "premium" wets adding meal which will sqeew that a touch also...Originally Posted by ConsumerKitty
I'm not sure if these are minimum or maximum values. They have been eating Orijen for about 1 month now. In another thread it says that corn gluten is good for UT health. I've heard that grains are good for UT health, too but I wonder if that's true. I switched them from a grainy holistic to grain free and I don't want them to get UTIs.
Interesting. I've always been told that the "ideal" ratio is 1.25-1.3 calcium to 1 phosphorus. Do you prefer a 1:1 ratio?Originally Posted by sharky
the ratio is 1.23 to 1 which seems a touch high to me but I do think it is within the normal
Do to dealing with CRF I actually prefer 1:.07 to 1.1:1 .. which I have found is okay for a normal catOriginally Posted by KatGoddess

Do you know if this applies to dogs as well? Just wondering because my dog eats homemade and I've always been feeding her a 1.3 to 1 ratio. Thanks!Originally Posted by sharky

dog unless large or giant breed 1:1 is fairly well acceptedOriginally Posted by KatGoddess
