I feel like I spent half my life at the vet with Scully but the others are fairly healthy and even those who no longer get vaccines have a once a year checkup as well as a visit if I am worried about something.

How often do your cats visit the vet and if they were speutered & vaccinated / vet checked recently when you adopted / bought them how often will they visit the vet?

I think I covered the majority of options in the poll, its multiple choice if you have more than one cat with different visits but please explain

Bumper has become very nervouse about vet visits so unless I see some change in him, he will not be going on a regular basis, I have spoken to my vet about drawing blood myself for annual testing but we havent decided that yet.

Magnum and Boomer get annual vet visits, but at their age we have decided to no longer vaccinate them unless I am bringing home foster kittens which we have no plans on doing currently with a new cat in the house.

Autumn and Quincy will get annuals with vaccines

Obviously they would all go if there was something 'off' with them

My girls get annual checkups. They get 3 year vaccines from the shelter, and then they go when I feel something is wrong. In the last year Smudge has gone because her eyes were quite weepy again, then she got all neurotic and we checked both her and Stumpy for health problems in case it was something going wrong with one of them that was causing Smudge to freak out, then we took them all again because they needed rabies vaccines to be able to get rabies titer tests for possible future quarantine requirements.

Mine go once a year for checkup and vaccines, but Riley seems to be either sick or accident-prone more often, so has ended up going several times a year so far.

I know the feeling, I bumped into my vet shopping the other day and she told me that she already missed me despite the fact I have already been in to introduce Quincy

i had the same problem with one of the dogs i had(my friend did this with her kitty too) . The vet would come out to my car to look at her or i would come out to the yard of the vets office to look at her and give her shots. (it didnt affect her love of cars since most of the time she was not going to the vets). it help she didnt cry at all. ask if the vet would mind checking in your car aslong as shes not a jumper and would try to get out!!!!

Everyone gets their checkups, and goes if they need to. Except Tomas... I know I should take him for his yearly but he hates strangers. You'd think he was a feral by his behavior.
He has a harder time getting over it than any other kitty I've had to take.

Genever has been with us since January and has been to the vet... 5 times? Something crazy. I would love to just have to take her in for a yearly checkup/shots. But she's has/had some issues... but I hope we won't have to go back til September again.

In any case, Genever isn't bothered by going to the vet. She likes to walk around the exam room and explore, and would probably walk around the whole office but cats are supposed to stay in their carriers in the waiting room. And she is too easy to get in the carrier, i just move my fingers on the mesh at the other end and she RUNS in to attack, and then i just zip the door closed. Sucker!! aww...

But yeah. Once a year would be optimal, but we seem to be going more often so far...

Having five is not great but not nearly what it was with 2 VERY special needs dogs ... My vet will come to the house . With two semi ferals and mr hidy this works well ... I say two exams and then issues for this house .. the issues are often handled by phone and text with the vet which has cut the bills way down and helps with my time and the vets ...

Since changing to a cat specialist, my vet bills have decreased by more than 1/3rd. I still can't believe it. All kitties get their annual examinations and vaccinations and if a vet visit is scheduled I get them drugged out on catnip and Feliway as I can get them!

Whimsey: 9 year old American Shorthair with IBD goes to the vet if he even thinks about stopping eating!

Merlin: 4 year old typical Heinz 57 just needs his annual exam and vaccinations; one dental so far but that was when he was addicted to dry food.

Fancy: 1 1-2 year formerly feral kitten. The usual initial URI and eye involvement tested negative for herbes and now just seems to need an annual exam.

Magic: Fancy's litter brother who also had initial URI and eye infection. Seems to do well with annual exams and vaccinations.

The caveat here is if they do something once that is atypical it gets my attention, if they do it twice they're at the vet so fast they don't know what hit them. They are family!

We try never to go more than once a day! But we've actually done it.

Honestly, we spend more time at the vet than we do with friends. For a few years we had three older cats who just needed six-month checkups. Then last fall one got sick with IBD and needed lots of tests and then quarterly blood work once the disease was under control. The vet saved her life.

Then another cat developed lymphoma and heart disease in the summer and died last month. We were at the vet ALL THE TIME. For about a month I was calling them almost every day with questions and reports. Our vet and her assistants were kind and patient with us as we learned to give injections and chemo, hand feed her, etc.

Now we're there twice a week because we adopted two feral kittens who have every kitten problem there is, as well as possibly infecting the two elderly cats. We had an appt. tonight, one last Saturday, two the week before that.... and I go in about once a week without the cats to pick up more meds.

Kuce and Luvbug both go in twice a year for senior check-ups (and bloodwork once a year - might change soon for Kuce - we're watching her kidney functions and thyroid) plus any time they may be ill or anything comes up as well as vaccines as needed.

Lil' Jag goes in more frequently to have her anal glands expressed. Otherwise she has a yearly check-up and vaccines as needed.

When our RB cat Sphinx was alive he was in at the vets at least once a month for his many age related health issues.

I've had all mine there several thousand times. Not only for regular exams & vaccinations - but some have chronic issues that flare up, Squishy's always getting hurt somehow....things like that.

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
Hercules hasnt gone since his neutering. He hasnt needed to though since he was vaccinated there and thus far no health problems. I will be taking him for a once a year vaccination (1 yr rabies) and check up. Unless something comes up health wise none of them will go more than once a year. Fatman isnt due for his rabies shot till next year and GiGi will be getting spayed next Saturday and get vaccinated then. I only do the rabies shot for them though, its the only shot by law I need to have on them and I feel more comfortable not giving them any other shots!

There's no place like home
I do an annual exam for all of the kids - last year I had the vet out to the house to do all of them at once. My older cats go in more like twice a year for check ups these days, and all of the cats go in if they appear ill. Even with all of the annual exams going on in December, there is rarely a month that goes by that I'm not at the vet for something or the other.

*Touches wood* Just once a year for a check up. They would normally get their shots, but this new vet we have has said because their indoors they don't need them, so i'll be passing on them now and just get their teeth, eyes etc... checked over
