Okay I am trying to think of a bunch of places to apply right now so that I can hopefully get myself into a better job and get myself out of debt. Right now I am working 2 jobs that both pay minimum. One is a doggy daycare that I love but the work is hard. I never have holidays off and work is unpredictable since it depends on how busy we are. Plus weekends are usually a must. The other is a sporting goods company that I absolutely hate. The 2nd has insurance but it is horrible, the cap for surgeries is 10,000 which is no help with what may be going on with me. And just all of the caps are ridiculously low. And for the price they charge I could find an independent insurance company and get it cheaper.

So I am trying to think of where to apply.
I'm looking for:
Set shifts
Monday - Friday
Insurance
Above minimum wage
Holidays off

But I'm worried because depending on what my pet scan shows depends on if I have to have surgery and I know a lot of place will probably fire me for missing that much work off the bat. And while I would love more money for the Holidays there is a slight chance I will be leaving for Switzerland for 2 weeks so I dont want to start anything right now and then have that. And I dont know that many places would hire me if I was upfront about it. So I'm thinking I will just wait and start applying at the beginning of the year and at least try to get away from the sporting goods store ASAP!

Anyone have any ideas for jobs that may fit what I want? Right now I'm thinking of looking at reception with doctors and dentist offices. But not sure about any other options!

I can tell you that making the move from retail to working in an office was the best decision I have ever made. I work Mon-Fri, get paid well and have great benefits! Good luck! Check out Craigslist as some offices will advertise there. Look into vets offices also since you have experiance with animals.

I tried a vet or 2 but all of them were minimum wage and 6 days a week because of the boarding animals. I'm hoping I find something! I HATE retail!

Another thing to considfer is that if you change jobs even if your new one comes with health insurance ususally there is a wait of a month to 90 days before that kicks in. And if you were diagnosed as needing this before you get the new insurance you may not get any help as it's a pre-existing condition!

Yeah I figure it probably wont get covered... but I'm hoping to get accepted into a program and get it taken care of before I switch jobs.

What's a pet scan?
Just a different kind of scan that helps doctors see better what they are dealing with. Its like a CT scan

Definitely going to try a government job but most of them you have to at least have a Bachelors degree which I do not
Dunno about 911 dispatch because I have a feeling I would start out on nights and weekends but I will try to find out!

THANKS GUYS!!

Over the river and through the woods...
Are there any call centers in your area? It's boring work, but usually pays good with good benefits if you can handle answering the same questions day after day after day. It's not a bad job, just monotonous. Depending on the contract, it may not be Monday thru Friday day shift. My contract is government so I work 9:00-5:30 during the week, but some contracts do have to work weekends, but usually you can get a set schedule if you want it (at least at my company). Might be something to check out.
