I have bare floors on the entire downstairs are except for the bedroom. I have a dog and a cat plus 3 skin kids. I sweep and vacuum the bare floor. I use a Shark steam mop when I mop and I have a Swiffer wet jet for quick cleanups...like muddy dog prints. However, I feel my floor is always dirty. You have to wear shoes or slippers otherwise your white socks will turn black even right after mopping.

Anyone have any ideas? Is it a lost cause?

My floors are tile in the kitchen and foyer. And I'm guessing a form of laminate that looks like marble tile in the dining and living rooms.

I feel the same way. The only time I feel my floors are clean are when I get on hands and knees and clean them. I think mops just move the dirt around rather than getting it up.

I don't use swiffer for that very reason.
I had to replace the pad several times to get it as clean as I like it. Which is wasteful to me. It is useful for small messes in between washings but not for the main cleaning.

I use a good ol' Fuller Brush mop (with the stringy mop head) and bucket.
My Mom is a house cleaner and will only use a fuller brush mop in her clients homes. Not a sponge mop either! I use Murphys Oil on my wood floors and whatever all natural cleaner I find at the store for my tiles and laminates. I every few months soak the head in bleach (you can remove it from the handle to do this), you might need to do it more often with all the traffic in your house.

I have an h2o mop and I love it. In between mopping, I have a swiffer wet jet which is alright but I don't use it that often.

I use a fluffy electrostatic dry mop daily to pick up dust or dirt, once a week I steam mop. Spot mopping is done with vinegar and water.

I use Binky. Oops, not for mopping but for dusting. I send her into a place not gone to by me before. She comes out with webs and dust on her person. She is a brave cat.

I use a string mop in the kitchen. I use a rag and get down and scrub the wood floors because mops leave too much water behind - I use murpys oil soap for this then do a rinse. It's time consuming but my floors don't get very dirty (no kids, no dog, no shoes).

My only problem now is that recently kneeling down for an extended period of time (playing with the semi feral kittens) set off an pretty rough episode of bursitis in my left knee. I'm not looking forward to my next flood scrubbing if this happens again.

I use a plain old mop and bucket, but with 6 dogs and 4 cats and living on a muddy farm its still a loosing battle, although it does look clean for about 5 mins after I have done it

Steam mop for me too. I am anal about my house and will do the floors once a week. I just have been sick so it's been lacking. Soon it'll be time for a hands and knees scrubbing to get back on track...

I use a Libman wonder mop with water and some Tide detergent thrown in (maybe a couple cap fulls to a sink of hot water).
