Mysterious poop pellets wherever my cat goes

My 7-month old Maine coon cat (adopted from the shelter a few weeks ago) leaves little poop pellets, the size of peas, once or twice a day wherever she goes. She poops in her litterbox like she's supposed to, but these unexplained, perfectly round pellets turn up in different places. We had her tummy and back leg hair shortened / shaved because I thought these were getting caught in her fur and getting transported around the house. But that didn't solve the problem, we're still finding little poops.

We took her into the vet for her check-up but he had no answers for us.

Any ideas what is causing this and how we can prevent it? All suggestions are appreciated!

I don't have answers for you either, but I do have a couple of questions. If I'm reading your post right, it sounds like the kitten has normal bm's inside the litterbox, and then you find these little pellets elsewhere in the house? Are these pellets hard or soft? If they are hard it could indicate a problem with constipation. Sorry I'm not very helpful.

is she getting poop stuck in her paws? either to the fur between her toes or on the paws themselves? one of our boys is such an enthusiastic poop coverer that he often gets bits stuck to his paw in the frenzy of digging, and we have to trim the fur between paw pads on our long-haired boy or else he gets poo stuck to his feet. (the enthusiastic digger also occasionally tosses poop right back out of the litterbox in his digging excitement)

Could she be constipated or have enlarged anal glands? My cat would leave little poops around the house and she started out with enlarged anal glands. And then had constipation. The vet found a huge blockage. I belong on a group for Feline Megacolon (which my cat now has) and this group deals with consipated/megacolon cats. It seems that this is a problem with many Maine Coons

Those are all very useful suggestions, thank you. The little pellets are rock hard, they look like they've been around for days, but I know for a fact that they weren't there just a few hours ago! (I clean the solids in her litter box twice a day.)

she does have furry paws (totally adorable!) but I regularly check them and I haven't yet found anything in there

I'm going to call up our vet to ask about constipation/megacolon, it sounds like it could be the problem (even though she goes #2 twice a day in pretty impressive amounts).

It could also be a blockage. Please let us know how the appointment goes. The vet would not really know unless he sees him in person.

What type of diet are you feeding your kitty. This could also play a roll.

good luck!

I have no explanation for you, but my siamese does this frequently (always has). No idea why, he's on almost a completely normal all wet diet, poops normally, completely clean bill of health. It's just like there is a bit left that gets kinda stuck and comes out later when he's running around (sorry, gross I know.)

My new cat Rocky has the occasional little poop left around. Just a tiny pea or smaller. He is on the adult pv diet which is killing me financially. It will be over 1500 a year just for food. He has colitis and when that acts up so do his anal glands. He seems fine right now, but he does still leave these tiny poop bits about. I am running out of steam. Hoped to adopt a healthy cat after losing my Birdie. Now I adopted a cat eith issues without being told. He is a sweet boy, but I'm running out of cat cash.
