Does your cat fetch?

My Egyptian Mau would put a labrador retriever to shame. She is completely addicted to fetching, and drops her toys on me all day/ every day. Usually when I am in bed she figures it's the best time. I guess because I am stationary and its easier than dropping them on my feet when I am walking. We have two games that she loves. One is simply throwing the toy and she'll make a mrowr sound as she races to get it and bring in back to my hand. The other is more fun, I'll say, "catch!" And she'll crouch down waiting. I'll throw the toy straight up and she'll leap to catch it.

OK, the other day I walked past the water bowl and one toy was in it. I took it out and left it on the floor to dry out. A few days later the water bowl is ringed with wet cat toys. She is dunking them...

Last nigh, she leaped onto the bed with her toy for me to throw, and it was a sopping wet cat toy! I put it away and threw a dry one, but she went and got another wet one. She prefers fetching wet cat toys... I need to get her on video.

My Danny does. It's a new found trick of his.

He'll fetch anything, but his absolute favorite thing to fetch is Q-Tips. We'll play for ever. And he slobbers when he purrs loudly (which he always does when fetching) so we have to get a non gross Q-Tip every 10 minutes or so. I swear I've gone through 1/2 a huge package in about a month, .

One of our clinic cats at work, Banana, fetches too. But it's only one specific ball. To the point we bought a huge container of "her" balls so we wouldn't have to worry about losing it. Nope. Has to be the gross, smashed, dirty original. We stuck it in the tub of 50 or so of the "imposter" Banana balls and she dumped them out and found hers. And she'll scream for it until we go find it. It's one of those fuzzy and mylar balls so if we krinkle it she'll come running from the other side of the clinic.

Mine started with one specific toy, an orange triangle with catnip that I bought for her at a cat show. That toy was hers and her alone. She'd growl at anything non-human that came near it. I could take it at any time however, and we started playing fetch. Soon, it turned into an obsession, but the triangle went missing. Luckily she will fetch any toy small enough, but her new favourite is a stuffed orange tiger with a small bell on it's tail. I wonder if she recognizes the colour....

Riley has me trained to fetch, does that count?

I had a little 5 month old foster kitty once that would fetch mousies all day if you kept throwing them. It was so cute!

My girl cat Siri fetches obsessively. Anyone in the house is victim for a game of fetch if she gets bored enough. She likes the little fleece balls I make - there should be 5-6 of them around here somewhere.
She has a much higher energy level than any of my male cats - which makes her enjoy playing more.
Tomas and Sho fetched as kittens, but they eventually lost interest.

To those that have young cats and kittens that fetch. Get pictures and videos of it now. They may get lazy later and decide staring at you while you throw the toy is more entertaining.

Thats a good point, Safiya is 8 months old and in fetch mode. Maybe she'll grow out of it. All of my Maus have been toy crazy tho, to the point where I have to hide the feather sticks in a closet. All I have is a camera that will take video, and I have no video editing software. Maybe I can find someone that will help me.

Such smart kitties!!

I loved the wet toys story. Ohmigosh. So smart.

Larry has one particular toy that he will bring to me, (it's one of those little springs...colorfully plastic coated) indicating that he wants me to throw it. Usually I'll wake up in the morning and he's sitting there, staring at the toy, which he's dropped in front of me, then staring at me. So I'll throw it, he'll go racing and sliding across the floor, then racing back and jumping on the bed, with it in his mouth, and drop it. And so on.

It's really funny. He's so determined and deliberate about it! Wish I had a video camera.

I have 3 fetchers all girls, and one of them is also a dunker.

The oldest fetcher is 2.5 years, my boys who are a bit older than her have never fetched.

If by fetch you mean roll a ball and have cat attack said ball sending it under the fridge for me to get back out while she pouts then her pouncing on it still in my hand all proud she got the ball after I have retrieved it, yes, my cat can fetch!

Baby Bonnie drags her wand toys around and drops them at my feet for me to throw across the house.

She'll fetch them and bring them back to me just as long as I keep on throwing them for her.

2 of mine do it

one with paper scrunched up balls and the other is a hairband freak, he jumps up catches the hairband with his paws then picks it up in his mouth and drops it at my feet

Luci plays fetch with those 25 cent vending machine bouncy balls. I throw them down the stairs or into my brothers room. He'll bring them back to me to throw again.

She has you trained! LOL

Dusty loves to chase a little fluff ball all over the bathroom when I am in there. She will bring to me to throw and then she plays a minute and brings it back for me to throw. She also loves those little hard plastic "milk ring" toys. I can't how many times I have found it in bed with me or stepped on it in the middle of the night. Those things HURT!!!!

Two of my cats fetch. Roxy the Maine Coon fetches sometimes.
Blaze, one of my 1 year old tabbies, fetches often. If you throw him a specific toy, he almost always will bring it back. It is a ping pong ball type toy which has bumps like a golf ball, a feather sticking out, and rattles when you shake it. If you rattle it he will come running and usually will retrieve it if you throw it. When he was younger he used to drop toys on me in the middle of the night when I was trying ti sleep. He'd keep poking the toy until I threw it, then he'd bring it back about 20 more times.
He also is my most toy-crazy cat, he jumps REALLY high when playing with a wand toy and he will play so long that he starts panting, and even then doesn't want to stop! Sometimes if I am playing with a wand/string (fishing pole type) toy with him he will actually try to bring it back to me even though the toy is on a string... Sometimes if I'm playing with a toy that is on a pole like the type with feathers or a furry snake-type attachment at the end of a stick, I will toss the whole thing across the room when I am tired of waving it around for the cats, and Blaze will bring the whole thing right back to me!

Yes, my kitty plays fetch. Favorite fetch balls are paper wadded up.

Sloth loves to play fetch, it started with a lil mousie with a bell on its tail. He talks to his toys but i learned he likes to scream at his toys when he wants to play fetch. He use to drop them right in my lap but he has gotten lazy and now just drops them within a 2 foot radius of me. He always manages to want to play fetch at all the wrong times, like 4am and he wakes me up screaming at his toys and then the next morning i find his presents he has left me. i wake up to about 2-4 toys in bed with me. Sloth does not play with normal size cat toys, i learned that he loves toys about the size of beanie babies. I find them at Target in the $1 section, hes my crazy boy! (i tried to get some pics tonight of him carrying his toys around but hes not up for it )
