Cleo got Best Shorthair Premier and 2nd Best All Breed Premier.
She also got 2 best of breed.
I am going to have to stop showing her though because she acted terrible in the ring again.
I am going to have to talk to her breeder about her.
She is a very nice cat but something has mad her a bad at shows.

Jacky, I know we've been over and over this but why are you going to talk to Ed about this?

I'd stop showing her honey, she's not enjoying it.

They said I should tell him what happened.
I am showing Wrinkles in 2 weeks but she has to much fur.
Cleo will stay home.

That's too bad for these fantastic results! I am sorry Jacky...

Isn't wrinkles supposed to be show quality? how come she has too much fur?

I agree with Sam on this one.

Congratulations on your results though, she still did well

Case in point Jacky: the big Red Bi neuter of mine, Elmo. He's about 40 points off becoming a Gold Double Grand Premier. The highest title possible in the NZCF. He was about 4 when we stopped showing him because he really disliked it. He probably would have gained these points in one or two more shows (a couple of 5th Best in shows would have done it) but he was over it by then. Sometimes it's just kinder to let them stay at home. It doesn't matter how gorgeous and typey they are sometimes, it's the nature of the beast, I'm afraid.

Been there done that. You can't make them show cats - you just hope for the best. Spooky was my all time best show cat - nothing ever phased him. He was shown from 5 months old to about 6 or 7 yrs when we stopped. He loved shows, people, etc. We really lucked out on a wonderful loving cat who brought many people into owing a Cornie.

Charlie likes showing, he just is shy about eliminating in public and for health reasons he's retired. He Granded in ACFA and was 9 pts short of Granding in CFA. Jack, so far has been fine showing so hopefully we'll have a few years of showing with him.

To tell you the truth Jacky, I found that showing males (neutered) worked at lot better then showing females. Whether I was showing an entire female in championship or one in the alter classes - their show careers were pretty short because they just didn't like it - all of them had attitudes in the ring (maybe "princess" syndrome). Some of them barely made it to Grand before they stayed home.

I hope that Wrinkles will be the exception and she will actually like showing where you guys can enjoy things. Ever notice in the alter rings how the majority of the cats are males????

There were 7 sphynx at the show.
All were females except one.
They all acted nice.
I did buy Wrinkles as show quality but her breeder has never showed a cat before.
We really do not know how she will do.
It is fine with her breder if she does not do well because she will be the first kitten/cat to be shown from her cattery.
We are still trying to figure out her color also.
We know she carries the siamese in here.
She does not carry Chocolate.
We know believe that tanish color she has is red.
The breeder that has Wrinkles sire did ask me to let her know how Wrinkles does.
She does have the nice round stomach like Cleo does but she also has way more fur then Cleo.
Cleo just has the fur on her ears and nose and is well liked by the judges accept for her attitude.
I guess we will see how Wrinkles does.
I had someone that might become a Judge in TICA in the future look at her pedigree and DNA test.
She is a master clerk at the tICA shows and shows all over.
She also shows in CFA.
I wish I knew what went wrong with Cleo.
I would love another sphynx like her type

Sorry to hear she's not enjoying showing very much but at least she got some great results!

Since Wrinkles is a kitten, maybe the extra "fur" will drop out in a few months. I don't know a lot about how they molt when growing up.

Got some recent pics of Wrinkles? She doesn't look like she has fur to me - where is it?

It would be nice if they could tell you wouldn't it. I have 2 boys that don't like it and 3 girls that do - all just luck of the draw.

We have an even mix of males and females in all classes here.

A few judges said Cleo was freezing.
This one judge was very nice.

She talked to me a little bit about Cleo and said it is very cold for the sphynx in the showhall.
Martice I will get you pics of Wrinkles later today.
Her tail is very furry for a sphynx.
It is allowed but she will lose points for it.
Cleo is balder then almost every sphynx there and she has american shorthair in her.

My kitten, PB, is the same way. I was advised by others to bring his regular litterbox from home to shows. I'll keep it in my car and I'll take PB out to my car for some privacy. It worked for his half sister, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will also work for him! Perhaps this is something that could work for Charlie too?

No - we've tried that. Even had a problem in the hotel room. He would just hold it till we got home. On a short trip I didn't mind, but on longer ones it was a problem. We would monitor him in the hotel room and make sure he went at least once for pee and once for poop.

Besides, Jack is better and would beat him out anyway in the rings

Jacky,

Molly has a furry tail and paws as well. The judge who used to breed Sphynx said she has the type of fur that will fall out. She also said that if up against another sphynx in color and division, they will pick the one that has the least amount of hair, ALWAYS. What she said gives me hope that we will have a more typey cat in the future. Monty though, he just needs to fill out his jowls and then he'll be a perfect show cat, all the right traits in one cat.

I learned so much at this last show, and am so glad I went. Will be going to a show in November with just Monty and our new kitten. We will be flying this time LOL...no more long drives. This show is at least 2 days drive away.

Susan,
Cleo does not have any of the fur on her tail.
I am taking Wrinkles to 2 shows next month.
One CFA and one TICA show.
I already entered the TICA even though it is after the CFA show.
I am glad you have a cat that will do well.

I'm late chiming in, but,

Some cats just aren't going to like the shows. They may start off great as kittens, then decide as adults that they hate it.

It's tough when you're not a breeder and you enjoy showing but your cat doesn't, because that cat is your pet and it's not always feasible to just purchase yet another cat. As a breeder, you know another great one will come along and you'll have your show cat.

We've been fortunate and none of our cats have ever bitten a judge, but one has slapped a judge across the face and one has taken a swing or two while being put back in the judging cage. I can put up with a cat of mine that is growling a little or hissing, but taking a swing or biting is aggression that shows the cat is truly unhappy.

We've been in your situation several times. Have an awesome cat that the judges also think is awesome, but he/she has an attitude problem. The short answer is.....don't show the cat anymore.

I hope Wrinkles will enjoy showing more.

Thanks Nial
I did talk to some of the judges and they are saying to try her one more time.
They said she was cold and that is why she acted up.
It was freezing at both those shows.
We also tried to call Cleos breeder and the numbers are disconnected.
We tried the one on his website and the number he gave me when I got Cleo.
I have a few questions to ask him.

So far my cat who likes showing the best and does best is a female... Harlequin is really comfortable with it and has done well so far (got Master and Grand Master in one 2-day show) and I anticipate she will continue to do well since she was also comfortable at the several pet events and other things I've taken her to... I have one other cat (male-- Spot) who was comfortable with the showing too but he wasn't interested in playing in the ring and is chubby so he didn't do well in the show and I haven't taken him to any others because of his weight.
I still have one male cat who hasn't shown yet but I have a feeling he is going to be shy.

When I showed Ty it was the girls that were beating him.
In fact I think all the Bengal kittens were girls except 3.
All the calico female sphynx that go against Cleo are nice also.
People were saying are you sure she is not a unfixed calico as a joke because it is the calicos that seem to act up.
My husban will not let me get a male after all the bad luck we had with them.
Look at Starfish.
Top Cat is terrible in the ring and he is a boy.
So is the male that attacked Cleo through cage at the Hayward show.
In fact I think that is part of the reason she is acting up.
The blood ran down her paw from being clawed.
Cleo only hissed and never swiped at judges before then.

I don't think sex has much to do with it, it's the personality.

Tbh I've seen an equal amount of girls & boys become upset in the show ring and thankfully most of the owners have stopped taking these cats to the shows
post #23 of 23
I'm just saying from my own showing over 25 yrs - I've had a lot better luck with the boys then with the girls - only had one boy (Turkish Angora) that didn't like showing as an adult.

I'm glad most of you have girls that liked showing
