Now, cats are a new experience for me so I expected my life to be turned upside down and inside out because of their nature. I've heard so many stories on this forum alone about cats waking their humans up at ungodly hours for food or even affection or for completely unfathomable reasons. Boy was I pleasantly surprised!

Sho is one heck of a polite cat and has the patience of a saint (when I'm asleep). He's willing to simply sleep and wait until I'm fully awake before demanding attention or food, no matter how late I wake up. If I sit up in the early hours of the morning or middle of the night, he'll look over at me curiously. Because more often than not, I wake up sometimes just to check on him. If I lay back down, he'll go back to sleep and wait until I'm actually ready to get up.

When I'm finally fully up, Sho will watch me for signs that I'm really and truly fully awake and ready to start my day. Sometimes, I'll actually have to say something out loud before it clicks in his mind that, "Human's awake!" Only then will he approach me. I'd have to flip the blankets off me before he'll hop onto the bed to greet me with purrs and headbutts because I've forbidden him from getting on my blankets. And surprisingly, he's understood that blankets are off-limits.

When I get up from my seat, Sho will sometimes take over because it's still warm. But when I return, he'll kindly get up and sit on the back of the chair instead.

When it's feeding time, he'll sit there and watch me and wait patiently until I'm done preparing his meal. He won't climb on me, whine, or wind around my legs. He'll only approach when I'm setting his bowl down on the floor. Sometimes, I'll ask him "Sho, meow for me?" and he'll comply and meow. He's so cute. ^-^ He won't even run out if he hears the cans. He'll only come when I call for him.

How polite are your kitties? ^-^ I was wondering if anyone else had such patient and polite cats.

you are so very very lucky. prissy can be very distant and proper when she wants to be, but if she decides at 3 am that it's time for some attention, she's going to do "the stare" and if that doesn't work, she starts going *pat*pat*. first my nose, then the eyes, then the ears. I don't know why she has started that pattern but i guess in her kitty mind it makes perfect sense. If I really don't want to get up, she's start trying to get her paw in my mouth! Ugh!

With all due respect, I believe that there is something serious wrong with your cat and if I were you, I'd rush him to the vet immediately!!!!

*blink* Why do you say that?

And he was just at the vet's last week for a follow-up to his blockage. There is currently nothing wrong with him health-wise. He's been like that since I got him three months ago. That's just his personality.

I am using Sharky's color code on this one
- blue for good, red for bad!

My kitties also don't bother me AT ALL when I am sleeping, but at the first sign of waking up, game on
.
Bugsy sleeps with me on bed, I am not sure about the other two... all I know is that we all wake up together
- the only off limit thing is my body, as I couldn't breath with an 18lb kitty on the top of my lungs
.
I think they are very polite though - they never broke anything, they don't destroy things, they don't scratch anywhere but on their areas... Their wonderful kitties, all three of them! But If they did all that, I would love them all the same - they are my kids.

I thought I had picked an uncommon enough of a name years ago for mine. I never thought I'd see someone with another cat named Sho.
What color is your's?

My Sho is so-so, as far as patience. He's not really a demanding cat though he does get fussy with the others. He doesn't meow at all for me, DH can occasionally get puny mews out of him.

Hehe.. I'm not too knowledgeable about cat colors.. but I believe he's a black and coffee-colored tabby. Sho's only demanding when he wants to play. He'll jump off the walls and make a racket all the while meowing and howling at me like he's about to die. Seriously, when he first did this, I thought he was in some serious pain or something!

Standard brown tabby, then. A common and popular color.

Mine's a brown tabby and white. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicolor_cat has a bit about patterns on white if you're interested. I need to dig through my bookmarks - if GloriaH doesn't make a pattern and color thread, I might consider it if there's enough interest. Because like you, not everyone knows what patterns and colors are called what.

Have you tried a laser pointer with your kitty? He may like chasing one.

This is Trout as well. She oftens wants attention in the middle of the night, and she makes it well known.

All of our cats are actually very well-behaved. Oh, Ella and Sterling both like to push things off the table, counters, etc. But we got them all as mostly-grown kittens or adults.

You're one very lucky kitty owner! Rosalie has slept in my bed since day 1 (I did it though because she started off afraid of the dogs and I didn't want to wake up in the middle of the night to a conflict) but she doesn't wake me up unless she see's I'm already waking. She does sleep between DH and I which is a bit of a PITA, but she'll move herself if we do so that we don't have to move her. Now come feeding time is a diff story. She doesn't free feed because of my dogs so as SOON as you step foot into the kitchen, she will MEOW you to death untill her dish is on the floor by her, lol.

I'm feeling pretty lucky myself. He's not a demanding cat, which really surprised me because I had no idea what to expect when I got him so spontaneously. It was one phone call late one night, and I received the cat early the next morning.

Sho doesn't free feed either. He eats two meals a day: once in the morning before I leave for classes and once at night before I have my dinner. I don't have any other furries out and about that would steal his food. I just don't want him getting fat. ^^;

I don't keep Sho off my blankets because I don't want him there, but because my mother hates, hates, HATES cats. Did I mention she hates cats? She doesn't want to see him on my bed. Heck, she doesn't want to see him. Period. She completely freaks the hell out. I do lay his blankets ontop of my bed when my mother's not home so he'll sleep on those. He knows the difference between his blankets and my blankets.

If Sho sees my blankets in the way, he'll walk around them or jump over them. My bed happens to be shoved right against another one, so he'll even climb onto the other bed and walk all the way around to greet me in the mornings if I happen to be on the other side.

Any chance I could send Bree over for some lessons?

She doesn't know what "polite" means! If it's the middle of the night, she'll start getting frisky and pouncing in and out of bags, scurry down the hallway and down the stairs, go crazy again, and zoom up the stairs and onto the bed. And then decide she wants a rub on the head, and smack me to get up so I can pet her. If I even dare shut her out of the room, or inside of the room (*GASP!*), she'll paw at the door, meow loudly, and if that doesn't work, she'll throw herself dramatically against the door (no cats are hurt in this process, I promise. Only their poor humans). And then at 4:30 a.m., she'll start begging for food.

She's lucky she's so cute, and so good at acting sweet when she needs to

You are so lucky to have such a polite kitty. I am afraid of losing fingers when I put down the food bowls, mine are like little wild animals.

Honey, are you SURE you have a cat?? And, if so could you send Sho over to train MY cats?

You are so lucky. We don't really have a problem at bedtime or during the night because the door is closed! We let Harley in for his 10 minutes of quality time, then he wants back out. The only cat that sleeps in our room is Little One (when she decides to wander home that night) and she will snuggle up to us, or between us, to get her lovins then once DH and I are ready to get comfortable she will go to her bed by the window. She really doesn't bother us at all.

Now, feeding is a different story. With 8 resident cats (upstairs) and a barn cat with 3 kittens (they come upstairs and outside during the day, but sleep in the basement) it gets to be dangerous. They are free fed during the day but do get a treat of 2 cans of cat food a night. One for the downstairs cats, and one for the upstairs cats. It's like I'm under attack. I spend more time saying "get off", "SHOO!", "That is NOT yours!", "Can you please just wait a minute?" than I do actually opening the cans and putting it down. They gang up against me every night...I swear, they have meetings about who is going to climb up my jeans to distract me so someone else can get the first bite. Yeah, I think my kitties need to learn some dinner etiquette.

O_O; You people scare me. Or rather your cats scare me. ><; But yes, I am positive Sho's a cat. Hahaha... But sometimes I think he might be a dog. o_O; Or...maybe he recognizes me as top cat? I have no idea.

And I would send Sho over to everyone's houses! If...I wasn't one hundred percent positive he'd eat your cats if he could. ;-; For some strange reason, Sho is extremely unfriendly towards other cats. This one time, two kittens came up to the window to greet him and he all but charged into the glass to try and attack them and have them for lunch! He kept opening his mouth and trying to bite at them through the glass.
