of my adopted Daughter, her boyfriend and my Daughters accident. If you all think back, they hit a mobile home and a utility pole. The accident, caused my adopted Daughter to be paralyzed from the chest down.
There was a 4X4 on the utility pole that came through the window, and hit Karri in the forehead.
She was airlifted to the Hospital and placed in ICU.She had a surgury to replace the ablitereated C5 in her neck. She was doing good with traction. But the surgury was too much on her--I think. She went downhill from it.
On the 29th of Oct. last year, she suffered a stroke and slipped into a coma. She was then pronounced brain dead following a brain scan.
Her birth parents made the decision to have her organs donated. And we know that someone benifited from her liver,kidney/s,corneas and heart.
NOT a day goes by that she is not thought of in this house. We miss her sooooooo much and our hearts are not the same without her.
If you know any teenagers that like to joy ride or show off--be sure to tell them to slow down.Had her boyfriend have followed my warnings, she MIGHT be alive today.
My Daughter still to this day suffers from panic attacks

That's absolutely terrible, I mourn for you as you endure such an anniversary. No one should ever have to endure that type of trauma.

I hope that someday we can just do away with cars and people driving, human error can be so fatal.

It's going to be hard every year on the anniversary.

How is your daughter doing now? It must be hard for her having lost her sister that way. And the boyfriend - do you have any contact with him at all? This must be every parents nightmare, but the thing with teenagers is it's so hard to get through to them that they aren't invulnerable.

Amber suffers from panic attacks. She was placed on Celexa for post traumatic stress.
She was into driving before the accident. After it, she had no desire to drive. And we never pushed her.We bought her a Jeep for her Graduation gift last year, in the hopes that one day soon-she would want to drive. She has since, gotten her learners and drives at any chance.
She suffers from nightmares alot. And at 19, has to sometimes sleep with a night light. She cries alot.
As for the boyfriend, he turned into a real _______.3 months after the accident, he started dating Karri's best friend. He has cut off his ties to us.
Kids think they are invinsable (sp) and that nothing can hurt them.

Last night was kind of bad for sis.As I was driving her home from work--it was 9 at night....I had a deer run into the side of my Expedition. It HAD to have died from the impact. As soon as Sis heard the hit,she started into a full blown panic attack, and almost threw up.
At the time of the accident,we assumed she was knocked out.She had a keyboard hit her in the head, and knock her out.She got a concusion from it.We THOUGHT she didn't hear the actual impact of the hit.But after last night, I am convienced that she did hear it.And only passed out from the trauma.
She was sitting right behind Karri in the Tracker

thank you all for your kind words.
I make it a point to stress slow speed with any kid that will listen to me.

Oh that's just awful.
I don't think she'll ever be happy driving again, but I do hope she can learn to be comfortable with it so it doesn't detract from her life. Being able to drive yourself gives you a great deal of independence. It's not at all surprising she has panic attacks now.

I was in a car accident when i was 18, that put me off driving, i would get such anxiety that i jumped or screamed whenever i was in the front seat and whoever was driving would get too close to another car in front of us.
It was the main reason why i didn't pursue with getting my license at that age, i was comfortable using transport and just walked everywhere else.

5 years on I now have my license, but i get so so so scared when someones comes right up behind me, it makes me panic and makes me wonder why the heck they CANT over take me!! I am doing the speed limit!

I do like driving and am quite comfortable now but it was a hard process.

She will get through this, it is just a very long process
