OK guys, here's where I need your assertiveness and politically correctness.

I have 4 jobs - 1 is endless whimsy and it's very part time. 2nd is piano lessons and it is a small load because of job 3. Job 3 is my second 'real' job - it's a director of a private chorus. My 4th job is my full time job as a teacher.

So, this year we've been experiencing some job 'creep' at school. Last year we were told to 'try not to call out because they weren't paying for many subs'. And the school did not pay for my sub when I was a guest presenter at a state music conference.

This year, the school has taken our 'in school' time for content meetings and put them after school once a month. They've also added another mandatory meeting and put that after school once a month in addition to the already scheduled staff meetings that occur after school.

I've been very resistant to this because they are extending our school day which is starting to make it very hard to schedule after school help for students.

These meetings are 'in lieu of' getting out a couple days earlier at the end of the year.

My issue is: The newer mandatory meetings fall on Mondays which is the day I have my other real job. I've managed to be able to fix the start time of my second job so I can attend the mandatory meetings and rescheduled another to be on a different day.

Well, parent teacher conferences are coming up and they want me to schedule them on a Monday.

I have emailed my principal and asked her if I can reschedule my hours to a different day - which I know others have done in the past.

She has no idea what hardship I've gone through to make everything work for Mondays. Nor does she care I expect.

I'm already missing some of my Monday rehearsal to attend a school board meeting the week before to support the music department while the board discusses cuts.

Is there something else I could be doing or saying to my principal?

I'm almost to the point where I feel the need to not do this other job, but it's important to me and it's integral to my financial success. I'm upset because I feel that I shouldn't be pinned into this place in the first place. I'm upset about all these mandatory meetings.

Any advice?

That's a tough one, especially wth the work environment and job market being so iffy. Is there anyone else who is affected by the Monday only scheduling? If there are several of you that are being negatively affected by the schedule, there's possibly strength in numbers...you might be able to get the day changed to accomodate your other activities.

I'm in sort of the same perdiciment. I work 10 hour days, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Unfortunately, EVERY madatory meeting is scheduled on Wednesday (my day off.) I'm the only person who has issues with the meetings, and I was basically told by my boss that I had to come to the meetings, or have my schedule changed to accomodate them. Like I'm going to give up my Wednesday off! I'd rather resign the Coordinator position!!!

I hope you have a boss who is willing to talk with you, and perhaps work out a schedule that would be beneficial to both of you. Good luck!

My thoughts, too. Your position will be much stringer if you can get others to join with you in offering an alternative solution to the problem. Good luck!
