I know, I know, and I am the first to say she is a DLH, since she has no papers. I am also not looking to "higher" her status in any way... but just out of curiosity, here are the facts:

The rescue where I adopted her from had her advertised as a Maine coon; since she was a stray, I always had her as a DLH.

Lately however quite a few people have stopped by my site calling her a Maine Coon, which made me think if she could be a mix??

IMO she does look like one, even though she is little.... But again, there is a member here with a coon who is about 10lbs...

Here are some pictures - what do you think?

Again, it is not going to change a thing, I love her just the same, but I did get curious from the comments I heard... They were quite unexpected!
Thanks!

My friend has a white Turkish Angora female and she doesn't look like that. Her body built and coat are very different. Angora's have that lean 'oriental type' build and thin single layered coat.
I don't see a Maine Coon in her either, the face shape is different. My closest guess besides a DLH is propably a Norwegian Forest Cat mix.

these are purebred mane coons - I do think they look alike... I do not think their faces look all that different.... but maybe that's just me...

humm..... I need to research more this breed.... Don't they have a very heavy coat though? Or it is only impression? A few people, as I said, stopped by my site and called he a coon out of nothing, including people who were owners of PB coons - which was what intrigued me and prompted me to ask this question herein the board... Now I am even more intrigued! I know she is not the regular DLH, meaning, there is a close ancestors to her with a breed, that I know, because of her mane (H-U-G-E), her fur Heavy, but single, non-matting, very silky), her body type... she is quite different.... Somebody jumped the wall and got pregnant with my lil lady!

The breeders I asked said, could be but they didn't think so.

Also doesn't seem to have lynx tipping on the ears, and some MC's don't.

I would stick with DLH, you'll never know who was running the streets or which cats were kept together entire.

There is no 'normal' for domestics, coats can be any kind, body type etc.

I'm no expert, not even close, lol, but after looking at pics of the 3 (coon, angora and forest) I think she looks closest to NF cat, just because her body build looks to big to be angora and her build seems to small for coon, but she could have mixes of all three somewhere in there.

Hmmm... It's possible she could be part Maine Coon but it's hard to say. Many cats are called Maine Coon mixes but I think it is more common that they just have the same "look" as the native cats which were used to start the breed.

I've heard the average for female Maine Coons is 8-12 pounds. Roxy recently hit 11 pounds but she is on the skinny side. She is turning 2 at the end of October and I've read that MCs don't reach their full growth until anywhere from 3-5 years. We've noticed recently that she's gotten longer too.
Maine Coons and NFCs both have a double coat but NFC's have more of a wooly/dense undercoat, while Maine Coons have a lighter undercoat.

IMO her head looks more like a Turkish Angora in type, but the body looks more Norweigian Forest Cat rather then a Maine Coon.

I'm sure she probably has a little purebred in the background, but she's a very lovely domestic longhair kitty.

This thread has been sooo interesting! I had NEVER considered NFC!! Whatever she is, she is a character!
Yeah, no doubt she is DLH, she does have a "past" though

MCO females are MUCH smaller then males (not always) this is why there is an allowance in the SOP.

I don't think she looks NFO to me or MCO, but's she IS beautiful.

So she isn't that breed of cat that's just been discovered in NZ...anyone heard of them? Bites your feet at night, hangs on to your curtains, knocks over the lamp, bites your homework, lurks under the bed until you walk past. I think I've created a monster.

- lite

Now in all seriousness - she is funny! When she is hungry in the am she will jump onto my nightstand, and wait until I look at her... than she will sloooooowly drop something on the floor and wait for my reaction. If I react, she stops, If I don't... she keeps dropping things on the floor, one-by-one, drop, check me out, drop
until I give in and get up to feed her - street smart or what?

Also, I think the Turkish Angora is supposed to be the original longhair cat, so any DLH would have some TA genes from way back

Whatever she is, she's beautiful!
