Belly after weaning

Is it normal for a mama cat to gain weight after weaning?

My Jesse has a belly and I am paranoid she is with kitten. She has not gone outside and the only contact she has had is with my male cat, Boomer. Boomer is 16 and was neutered years ago. Boomer could explain the Siamese markings in two of the kittens.

She is getting spayed the next day I have off work that coincides with the vet.

Can a neutering fail?

It's very normal for a mama cat to gain weight after weaning. All of her calories were going towards her milk to feed her kittens so now she's gaining her weight back.

How long ago did she stop feeding them? If he belly looks unusually swollen check her teats to make sure they aren't hot or hard. If she has just put on weight gradualy she should be fine. But, if she's ballooned in a few days, her teats may be infected and that requires a run to the vet. Sometimes if the teats aren't allowed to dry up on their own (as in the kittens are taken away to early, or the kittens die) the ducts get infected and it can cause swelling but that should be around her belly and not in her tummy.

Ok, I just reread your post. Boomer is a saimese but he was neutered years ago? Neutering on a cat can't just "not take" because they normally take "everything" that you can see (ie, family jewels). Does he still have his little tidbits? Now, the hormones can stay in, but normally only for a few weeks/months but if it was years ago he should be completely sterile.

A trip to the vet for Jesse is a good idea just to make sure there wasn't any complications with her pregnancy. and there isn't anything giving her an infection.

Yes, she is going next week. She is not hugely fat..but tubby. Her kitties are almost three months old and the kittens show no interest in suckling now.

My work schedule has prohibited me from taking her to get spayed before next week. She has not gone outside and WILL be fixed next week.
