Well, Good Morning!! Here are a few questions for you. The theme is (mostly) desert island, i.e. suppose you were stranded on one... and don't worry about the technology to support your choices, that will be taken care of...

1. What would be your five Desert Island CDs? They don't need to come from your own collection. Why would you choose these particular ones?

2. You might also want some reading material. What would be your five Desert Island books? Why?

3. What else would you like to have with you to occupy your time and your mind?

4. You'll also need food. If you could have only two or three foods and nothing else, what would you choose? Why?

5. If you could have one human companion, who would that be? Why?

This one is not part of the theme:

6. If you came into a large sum of money -- an unexpected inheritance, a winning, whatever, but "set-you-up-for-life" big -- what would be the first four things you would do?

i've never been. The closest i've ever come is el paso.

here´s the link my friend..(about my city and you can see something too about chichen….http://www.yucatantoday.com/index.php

i know of the yucatan and i've seen pictures of chichen itza. Seems like a pretty cool place.

4.- can you speak spanish?

5 years of spanish in high school and college and all i can remember are a few basic words and phrases.

5.- do you have some cd of spanish music? Do you like it?

probably the closest thing i have to traditional music is la bamba by ricky valens.

6.- have you ever to watched a mexican movie? ( i mean with spanish dialogs?)

i don't think so.

7.-do you like the mexican food?
( do you have any preference for example: Burritos, tacos, rice & beans, etc?)

i like it. When i go to a mexican restaurant for lunch, i usually get the combo with a taco, a beef burrito, beans, and rice.

8.-do you like the tequila?
...or else mexican alcoholic beverage?

i've grimaced and taken a few shots before, but i generally stick with wine. Dos equis is pretty good beer (if it's actually mexican)

9.- have you ever to sleeped in a hammock?

yes, hammocks are cool. I find them pretty relaxing.

10.- have you ever to saw the traditional mexican clothes?

yes, quite a few times.

11.- do you to know cancun mexico? ( is a beach)
( here´s the link my friend: )
http://www.travelyucatan.com/cancun.php

i know of it, but i've never been.

enought for now,

1. What would be your five Desert Island CDs? They don't need to come from your own collection. Why would you choose these particular ones?

James Taylor's greatest hits for times when I'm feeling mellow.
AC-DC's greatest hits for times when I need to get fired up.
Jimmy Buffet - How can you not have Jimmy Buffet on a desert island?
The Rolling Stones - Just lots of cool Songs
A collection of the greatest classic rock hits of the 60's and 70's.

2. You might also want some reading material. What would be your five Desert Island books? Why?

War and Peace [in Russian] - would keep me busy for quite a while.
A Russian-English dictionary - to help me read War and Peace. My Russian is pretty rusty.

The collected works of Charles Dickens - He's just a great author.
The collected works of William Shakespeare - ditto.
Some kind of wilderness survival handbook - pretty obvious.

3. What else would you like to have with you to occupy your time and your mind?

Pen and paper. I've had a couple of novels rattling around in my brain for years, but I've never had the time or patience to sit down and write them.

An acoustic guitar along with a tuner and a book of chords tabs of songs I like.

4. You'll also need food. If you could have only two or three foods and nothing else, what would you choose? Why?

Pizza, hamburgers, and oranges. The pizza and hamburgers are my favorite foods. The oranges would help keep me from getting scurvy.

5. If you could have one human companion, who would that be? Why?

Hmm, tough choice. Probably my mom. We get along great and never argue.

This one is not part of the theme:

6. If you came into a large sum of money -- an unexpected inheritance, a winning, whatever, but "set-you-up-for-life" big -- what would be the first four things you would do?

Travel the world. I'd like to visit all 7 continents in my life and I still have 4 left (everything below the equator).

Buy a new house. Nothing huge, just a few extra bedrooms and an enclosed back yard for the kitties.

Hire a limousine with a driver - I hate driving and I could do other stuff while traveling around.

Find some worthy charities and donate a whole lot of money.

1.- Wich one is your favourite Genre of Music?

I have pretty eclectic tastes, but I would have to say classic rock from the 60's and 70's is my favorite. Take the soundtrack from any Vietnam war movie and I'll probably like it.

2.- How many Cd´s do you have?

Not that many. Maybe 30-40. I don't buy CD's too often.

3.- Wich one is your favourite singer Male?

Probably James Taylor. Nice songs and his voice matches mine so I can sing along.

4.- Wich one is your favourite singer Female?

Sheryl Crow

5.- Have you ever to listened at http://www.rippingtons.com/ ?????

Not until just now. It's pretty mellow stuff. Sounds like it would be good to play in the background while I'm trying to write.

6.- Do you have a CD collection? ( I mean for example all Cd´s from a determinate artist???

Not really. I used to own every Led Zepplin album on tape, but I never went out and bought them as CD's.

7.- Have you ever to participated in some Concert of your favourite artist?

No. I don't like big crowds, so I've never been big on going to concerts.

8.- Do you have any preference to listen a Radio FM station???

Have you ever to listened this one??...,….
http://www.1.fm/Station/SmoothJazz/Default.aspx )

There are a couple of classic rock and oldies stations I listen to, but the pickings are fairly slim around here. Most of the stations play country music.
I only listen in the car, so a smooth jazz station would probably be dangerous.

9.- In your own opinion wich one is better, a CD original from an artist or an MP3 collage of music without nothing of information?...

The MP3 collection. I just like listening to the songs. I'm not sentimental about keeping them in the original CD format.

10.- Do you play some Musical instrument?
…

I play some acoustic guitar. I mostly just strum or finger pick the chords.

Thank you my friend in advance for your nicely answers, I beg you love the music like I!...

I'm so busy with work and school right now, the only hobbies I have are occasionally watching TV or surfing the internet.

2. What's one trait you hate about yourself?....

I'm very shy around strangers. I find that if I get a few drinks in me, I can walk around a crowded room meeting people, carrying on conversations, etc, but in normal situations a wall tends to go up and I gravitate towards people I know or just hang out alone.

3. Name 3 thoughts at this exact moment:….

This General Tso's chicken I'm eating is a little bit too spicy.
Promise just shouldn't be allowed to be as cute as she is.
I need to quit screwing around and get back to work on my dissertation.

4. What do you read in the bathroom?....

I keep a couple of catalogs like the Foster&Smith catalog in there and usually a copy of the latest Cat Fancy. A lot of the time I'll carry whatever book or paper I'm currently reading in with me.

5. Current worry right now?....

Getting my dissertation finished on time.

6. Hight heels or low heels are you wearing right now?....

Slippers, so about as low as you can go. The only time I've ever actually worn high heels was back when I was about 13 and I dressed in drag one Halloween.

7. Favorite place to be on weekends?....

Home with the kitties.

8. Where would you like to go?.....

Short term, I want to visit the American Northwest. After I graduate in May and before I start working full time again, I'm going to get my dad to take me in his plane.

9. What´s your Favourite pop soda….

Coca-Cola

10. What colour shirt or blouse are you wearing right now?....

Brown.

You hear a knock at your door. You open it and there stands the celebrity of your dreams!

Who is it and could they distract you long enough so I could steal Thufir?

I'm not usually much of a groupie, so I had to give this some thought.

Norah Jones. When she sings that bluesy stuff, it's just amazing. Send Norah Jones to my door and she could definitely distract me long enough to steal Thufir.

But I would hunt you down after she left.

1.- Wich one is your favourite Genre of Movies?

Sci-Fi.

2.- Do you collect DVD´s or VHS??,….How many do you have?

No real collections, but I have a few complete TV series on DVD. West Wing. Babylon 5. Millennium. I also have the original Star Wars (pre-"improvement") series on VHS.

3.- Wich one is your favourite Actor Male?

Harrison Ford

4.- Wich one is your favourite Actor Female?

Glenn Close

5.- Have you ever to participated in some Special Event of your favourite artist?

No.

6.- Have you ever to saw in live to some artist? ( I mean is some restaurant, buying at mall or in some resort?)

No, just local celebs. I did end up at a New Year's party with a bunch of people who went to high school with David Keith (he's from here in Knoxville) and they spent the whole time busting on him. It was hilarious.

7.- Do you like to watch the Oscar Awards?

Sometimes I watch and play drinking games with my friends, but I don't watch them seriously.

8.- Have you ever to participated in a role in a Theather representation? ( maybe just for fun or when you was on School?) …

No, I'm not much of an actor.

9.- If you could to meet to some artist wich one would be and say us why!...

See my answer to gemlady above.

10.- Would you like to live next at some artist (? ( I mean for example your neighboor would be a TV anchor or else?)…
…

Not if they were famous enough that the paparazzi were hounding them. If not, I wouldn't mind.

Cheers my friend…

1. Do you cook? Do you like to, or is it a chore?

I cook some basic stuff, but it's a chore. I like things I can throw in the oven or in a pot and come back and eat it a few minutes later.

2. Do you like to cook with someone else? How well do you share your kitchen?

I've never actually had to share my kitchen.
The times I've lived with someone, one or the other of us cooked, but never both.

3. What is your favourite thing to prepare?

Something quick.

4. What is your favourite dish that someone else prepares for you? Who?

I used to have a girlfriend who made pizzas from scratch. Those were great. Now, it's probably when my dad grills steaks.

5. Either of those favourites might be a comfort food, or not. What is your favourite comfort food?

I'm not sure I have a staple comfort food, but sometimes late at night a Jimmy Dean sausage biscuit really hits the spot.

6. What is your favourite celebration food?

Pepperoni pizza.

7. When people come to my table, I always ask first whether there are any allergies/sensitivities/likes/dislikes I should keep in mind. If you came to my home, what would your answer be?

No allergies, but I don't like raw onions, most green vegetables, or anything that's too hot.

8. Do you consider yourself adventurous where unfamiliar food is concerned?

No. If I see it and it smells good I'll try it, but I usually prefer to order something I know I'll like.

9. What is your favourite meal of the day?

Dinner. All my work is done and I can sit and enjoy it.

I don't think I could pick just one.

What is your ideal place to live? (house, yard, apartment, pool, location, etc.)

A house for the privacy. I'd like it to have a fenced back yard I could let the kitties out in occasionally. Wood floors because carpets are a pain to clean cat puke off of.
Maybe 4 bedrooms. One for sleeping, one for an office/exercise room, one for storage / spare, and the 4th for an office for a girlfriend when I get around to getting another.

Do you have a favorite cereal?

I usually buy Honey Nut Cheerios or Frosted Krispies. Occasionally I'll get Golden Grahams.

A favorite snack?

Goldfish Crackers

Do you like to eat your vegetables, if so, which are your favorites, which ones do you avoid at all costs?

I don't get along very well with the vegetables.
I like a sliced tomato sometimes or a good salad, but only when everything is fresh.

Do you like dogs? What types?

I prefer cats, but my parents have had a couple of Cocker Spaniels that I liked.

Do you like parrots?

They seem pretty cool, but I haven't had a lot of experience with them.

Do you like lizards? What types?

Lizards don't do much for me. I prefer furry and cuddly.

Do you like spiders? Bats?

I have a laissez faire attitude about them. I don't bother them if they don't bother me.

How did you come up with your user name?

It's from my last name - Grogan. My friends in college (the first time around) used to call me Grogs and I've used it for my username on the internet ever since.

Do you like taking walks? Where?

I like to walk around at work sometimes if I'm feeling sleepy. We have a pretty facility with lots of wildlife, so it's usually pleasant.

Do you enjoy outdoor adventures? Like hiking, camping, etc.

I like hiking, but I don't do it much. When I was in Switzerland last Fall, I did some short hikes in the alps and that was great. I'd love to go back for a couple of weeks and do some serious hiking.

Do you believe in ghosts? Why or why not? Myths? If so, which ones? Then end of the world in 2012? Why or why not.

I'm a skeptic, so I don't tend to believe in things unless there's strong evidence for them. Nobody has provided sufficient evidence for me to believe in those things. I fully expect to be here, same as always, when 2013 rolls around.

In the spirit of Halloween, would you ever stay in a Haunted Hotel room at night? Does that sound scary or exciting?

Sure, it would be fun.

Have you ever been to Alaska?

No. I might go this Spring or Summer after I finish my PhD. My father wants me to go to the graduation ceremony, so I'm going to try to get him to fly me to the Pacific Northwest for a couple of weeks for a graduation present.

Have you ever been South America?

No, never been.

Have you ever been to Japan?

I've been to Tokyo, but only in the airport.

Do you have any favorite Japanese foods?

Teriyaki Steak

When did you know what you wanted to be or to do when you grew up, if ever you have known

Well, I've "known" what I wanted to be a few times, but changed my mind after I became it. Right now, I've known what I want to be for about 3 years and I'm pretty happy with it.

lol sorry if my grammar wasn't too good there it's been a while since I've spoken Russian!!
Have you ever visited Russia? Your Russian must be very good if you can read War and Peace!! Although I find that the Russian version is written in a much more simple language than the English translation if you compare it like that, at least in my opinion and that is the opinion of someone whose native language is very similar to Russian(Bulgarian), and English is not my native language so maybe it is very different for people whose native language is english..For some reason I find this to be true for soooo many translations from Russian though like Pushkin poems, they somehow want to make it sound like Shakespearean type of poetry when in Russian it sounds a lot more simple. I always wonder why they do that...Anyway that's so cool that you speak russian

Очень Приятно, Ютопия! Я очень плохо говорю по-русски!

When I came on with my current group as a grad student and they started showing me around, they talked about all this treaty verification work they had done with the Russians, so I decided I would teach myself. I used to listen to the Pimsleur CD's in the car and I would transcribe them to help learn to type Russian as well as speak it. Unfortunately, the work with the Russians started winding down shortly after I got there, so I never had much of a chance to use it or go to Russia.

I've spoken with some Russians at conferences, but I've never actually been. The closest I've come was my trip to Lithuania for a conference back in May. The official language was Lithuanian, but most of the older people spoke Russian, so I was able to use it a few times when dealing with a person who spoke no English at all. They're not exactly fond of the Russians there though (one of the places I visited was the old KGB prison where they used to torture freedom-fighters) so I didn't use it a whole lot.

That's why I figure War and Peace in Russian would keep me busy for quite a long time. I have one book of Russian short stories that has the Russian on the left page and the English translation on the next and I read quite a bit of that. I tried reading Nabokov's translation of Alice in Wonderland and I probably had to look up 100 words in the first 5 pages
so I'm pretty sure reading War and Peace in Russian would keep me busy for a long, long time.
