Hey everyone. I need some advice about a stray who has been living in my boss' "mud room" ( I guess you can call it that?). Its like, the door to get in her house is on the side, there are 2 doors, on facing the driveway, and one facing the backyard.. Then there is a door to get into the house. He showed up into her backyard one day, very skinny, and she's been feeding him since. He's very friendly and sweet! She had him in her house, but he sprayed everywhere. From the very beginning, all she wanted was to give him a safe place, while trying to find him a home. She's been trying to find him a home for 4 months, and I have been actively helping her trying to find someone for him. Nobody wants him. I want him, but I can't have anymore cats. My boss would keep him, and let him in during the winter, but she is worried about her birds. She won't listen to ideas about locking the cat up in a room while she has the birds out. I don't think that anyone will take him by the time it starts getting really cold, and it is already pretty cold already. I need some ideas about how we can keep him warm. He has shelter from the rain, but it is not warm in the little room. She has a box out there with a blanket in it that he always lays in, but I don't see how that is keeping him warm. I am really worried about him, and I love him so much.. I want to get him neutered. I don't want anything bad to happen to him and I don't want him to be cold. I don't really want to take him to the humane society, I am not sure if he would get adopted.

You are wonderful to try to help him. Getting him neutered should be first thing to do. That could take care of the spraying issue. Does he spray when he is confined to the mud room?

Here is a simple and inexpensive shelter that will be much warmer. http://www.spayandstay.org/wintershelter.htm

I wish you the best in getting him a warm home.

He doesn't spray in the mud room.. I don't smell it at all, not even around the house either. I definately wanna get him fixed. I would have to take him for an exam first and put a deposit down for the neutering. He seems healthy other than his weight. And he has put on some weight since the first time I saw him. I don't see any fleas on him, and he doesn't have eye goop or any URI. He was kinda skittish of me when my boss wasn't around at first.. Until he realized that I am a source of food. I feed him when my boss isn't home to do it. Im going to try to get a good pic of him when I go around tomoro to feed him. He's so handsome<3. Which is one reason I can't understand why nobody would want him.. Or why anyone would dump him =[

I love him SO much. Like he is mine..

ETA: he isn't confined to the room either.. My boss usually leaves one door open a bit so he can come and go when he wants.

Neutering him will make everything easier. Including chances of finding a permanent owner. Many hesitate to adopt a cat when first thing to do is they must pay for the neutering. And he is no longer a fresh saved stray, so the discount from vet will be lower, if any.
But your boss and you, being the rescuers, do have better chance to get a discount...

Good luck!

Ok so there is an update on Pepper!

My boss knows how much I care about this cat.She called me today and told me that she got a phone call from a shelter that she had contacted. Well, the shelter has room for him & Wednesday my boss is taking him. They are going to test him for feline Leukemia, and if he tests negative they will take him. The best part, is my boss said it is a no-kill shelter which I think is awesome! Im so happy that if he is neg. then he will have a warm place to be and he will definitely be more safe than outside I think.
