I'm looking for advice from others whose cats share this problem. I understand from my vet (a cat specialist) that this is some what common, but vets are not certain of the cause. There is evidence that the condition may be aggravated by certain foods/additives. In severe cases, cats with this problem are treated with monthly cortisone shots (which we have not had to do, thankfully). I put my cats on Branson Farms (one of the Blue Seal cat foods) and the cat with the lesions seems to be doing better. However, I'd like to learn more about this condition and other possible options. My cat (Totoro) seems to have fewer outbreaks but he stills seems "itchy/uncomfortable" in the areas of his mouth/muzzle where the sores break out. I'd like to see him as asymptomatic as possible. Any insights, advice or annecdotes regarding this condition much appreciated!

These articles give some good information on

I've had a lot of luck using 500 mg. of salmon oil with Omega 3 (available at health food stores and pharmacies) every day during an outbreak (in addition to the cortisone shot) for up to six weeks, and then one per week for maintenance. Just pierce the capsule and squeeze it over the cat's food.

THANK you, so much. I now know that my poor Totoro suffers from several kinds of these granuloma. Not only does he have the sores on his mouth, he gets them on the front and backs of his paws (exactly like the cat in one of the article pictures). He also has a permanent granuloma on the top of his head that the vet said may have to be surgically removed.

I'm a little confused about diet...some people seemed to have luck with fish, and others said that fish tends to be an allergen for these cats. What are some specific brands of food, or types of "human" prepared foods have people have success with (like canned tuna, chicken breast, etc.)?

Thank you again for the wealth of information!
