I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this before. Yesterday afternoon I took my kitten in for his rabies vaccination and immediately after receiving it he started drooling and foaming from his mouth. It was very strange and the vet was acting like that was a strange reaction as well. They had me wait there with him for a little awhile and he started acting normally, so they said we could leave.

As we were leaving, he started drooling again but they still told me to leave and to just watch him that night. Once we got home, he was completely himself, running around and playing, so I am thinking he is probably fine.

But I am still concerned and am trying to find out if anyone else has noticed this type of reaction to the rabies vaccination in their cat before?

I was going to schedule an appointment for my other cat (who's 2) for her distemper and rabies shot, but now I am unsure about taking her in after what happened with my kitten.

Welcome to TheCatSite,

A mild reaction to a vaccine is not unusual but I would be very concerned about your cats immediate reaction to the injection.
It is important to have a vet that is welling to discuss important issues like this one with their clients.

One of my kitties became lethargic, for several days, after receiving the shot.
Because rabies is not required in my state and my kitties are indoor only, with my vet's agreement, I refuse the vaccine for my cats.

Did your vet give you follow-up info...
watch for a fever, lethargy, lack of appetite, drinking water?
If it were me, I would discuss with my vet the possibility of not giving that vax. again or at the very least, using the vax I have linked below.

I am sure that other members will have feedback for you.
Good luck..
let us know how your kitty is doing.
