Adding a pic of my cat for Avatar?

Hello,
I've been looking over the avatar options and it seems like I can only choose from a few cartoon like images. I picked the first one for now but would like to change it to a real pic.

I have a great pic of one of my kids and one of our cats that I would like to use for my avatar but it doesn't seem to be an option for me.

Is everyone just putting their pics in a banner type graphic in their sig file??

I thought I've seen other avatars with custom pics but maybe I don't have enough post or something.

Any help from you knowledgeable folks would be great!

Looks like I will need 1200 posts before I will be able to add my image for my avatar.
