Hello, I desperately need your help! And, I've heard these boards work magic
I've been trying to find the artist and title of a song so that I can buy the CD. Here are some of the lyrics: "you don't have to be old to be wise" and something else about being cool and kind ... then another line about a bird not waiting until it's dead to fly ... ok so I don't know the exact words!
I have no idea how old the song is, but it is a male artist reminiscent of Peter Gabriel or Dave Matthews (maybe it's one of them!). There are female background singers on this song that have a "world flavor" -- they are singing some words in another language and also sing "La LA la" after the male sings some of the lines. In the Bay Area, they play it on a station called "The Wave", which plays a variety of alternative rock, world music and R&B. Can you help me identify this song? Every time I hear it, I enjoy so much that I would love to buy it for my car's CD changer. Thanks in advance for your help!

Judas Priest?! Isn't he a heavy metal artist? This song is more like "world contemporary" music. Well, artists sometimes do try different genres, maybe I should give him a try!

Angela, here's the lyrics to that song:
I've had enough of being programmed
And told what I ought to do
Let's get one thing straight
I'll choose my fate
And it's got nothing to do with you

The years are flying by and it's time I got high
Took a sample of the good things in life
This is a chance
I'm gonna take
Gonna get out trouble and strife

I grow sick and tired of the same old lies
Might look a little young, so what's wrong?
You don't have to be old to be wise

No I don't care that the people stare
Accuse me of going mad
Just get a long hard look
Into the mirror then,
Tell me now who's been had

The way things are going I won't get to show 'em
Go single all the time's up to me
So it's off with the ties
No compromise
Wanna taste what it's like to be free

I grow sick and tired of the same old lies
Might look a little young, so what's wrong?
You don't have to be old to be wise

SOLO (both)

I grow sick and tired of the same old lies
Might look a little young, so what's wrong?
You don't have to be old to be wise!

I'm gonna gather my things
Pull out the door
Every night I'll live on my own
And I comprehend,
That I'm a free man:
I got a will of my own!

I go as I please
Fend for myself
Pull all the stops, roll the dice
Out on my own, gonna go it alone
When I need it
Then I'll ask for advice!

You don't have to be old to be wise
You don't have to be old to be wise
You don't have to be old to be wise
[fade]

Guess what, I just got an email from a friend identifying the song! The artist is Angelique Kidjo backed up by Dave Matthews. The song title is Iwoya. Take a listen on Tower Records, it's such a beautiful song! Sample of the song A couple of the lines are, "You don't have to be old to be wise ... A bird doesn't wait till he dies to fly" and the words come from an African proverb. I am going to buy it right now!! Thanks for your help gals!

it might be Iwoga by Dave Matthews and Angélique Kidjo from the soundtrack to the Wild Thornberrys Movie, that's what it sounds like you're describing...
